Eight first timers? My, my.

BTW aren't you the one that was looking for someone that rented RVs that were already setup and waiting for you on the playa?

Yeah, that's sort of a bad idea...it kind of goes against the whole "radical self-reliance" thing that is one of the fundamental principles of the community. Just bring tents - they're not that bad, I promise.

Also, if you have eight people then you can set up your own camp! My first year our "camp" consisted of me and a friend sharing a tent, fumbling around and trying to figure out what the hell we were doing. Our neighbors immediately adopted us, though, and ended up becoming good friends of ours. Everyone seems to be in such a hurry to get with a theme camp, when really you should be more focused on understanding what you're going to need to thrive in an extremely harsh desert environment.

Food shouldn't be an issue - just get storage containers for more efficient packing and think carefully about what you're going to bring. Last year we made spaghetti sauce beforehand and stored it in big plastic bags, allowing us to eat like kings with very little muss and fuss.

And showering won't be an issue! Just find the Human Carcass Wash. They'll get ya nice and clean.

You'll probably get to meet Simon there, too.

Have you and your friends read the BM survival guide?

Have you ever camped anywhere before?

Interesting. I just emailed them for a quote! Even easier than building a hexayurt. We'd just need to bring the genny and A/C and food and costumes and other misc. stuff.

Hmm, it does lead to wondering if some one could haul one of these out for a StiffyLube replacement ... a Playa bath house!

All you'd need is several thousand gallons of water.

And I think there is a thread running right now on how to get several thousand gallons of water to the playa! ;)

Do the tent thing. food? No, you won't want to eat much, you can live off a bin of crackers, trail mix, jerky and canned/dried things. And ramen noodles. Couscous and canned chicken with raisins. If you can boil water (camp stove) you can eat reasonably well. Showers? Garden mister and baby wipes. Come on now, if you want it you will do it without the freakin' frills.

Don't worry about showers...just worry about food.
For showers, you can use baby wipes...you'll be fine for a week with those.
For food, have each person plan and bring one dinner for all and everyone take care of their own lunches and brakfasts...it's not that hard.
Live as if everyone loves you and thinks you look great. Dance as if no one is watching.

I just did the same thing, but did you notice the dates of when she was posting the same kind of questions? She's been trying to find a camp since '04!
