new burner from NY

Post by jeff.stark » Wed Apr 29, 2009 11:13 am

Hey everyone, my name is Jeff. I'm totally excited about coming this year for my first time! I'm flying in to Reno the 30th with another first time burner and I wanted to ask about rides from Reno to Black Rock Desert. I would gladly rent a car if other people wanted to chip in - or would gladly chip in for anyone elses car as well. I guess I was also wondering if the general consensus was - oh, another car to burning man is always a good idea (i would love to help bring people to and fro) or, nah - there are plenty of cars already and i could easily get a ride.

that being said i can't wait to see you all out there!

You might be able to get one more passenger, if you are really rigid about "stuff." Of course that depends on the car size as well. Now I get confused. The "to and fro" stuff, are you talking about the playa and Reno? Or within the event? The answer if the first is that if you do that not only will you have to pay gas, but you will have to pay an in and out fee. I think it's $20, but you want to know. If you meant the second, then it doesn't matter if you get a car or not. You will not be allowed to drive during the event except when exiting and entering the playa.
There will also be a ride board closer to the event. Craigslist may prove fruitful as well.

Excuse me, but what the heck is going on? Why has nobody else answered in this thread? Not even jkishka. Am I the kiss of death or something? If I am, why hasn't anyone told me so I could change my hairstyle?

Hey fishy, I truly do admire and respect you so I will tell you it is not your hairstyle it is your fish lips. Just kidding, I think everyone is sleeping and well for jk we all know what he is doing.

Okay, okay. But why did people whose first post came after Mr. Stark's get greeted more than he did?

I am driving from Wichita and will be in Reno on the 30th....

I have a Durango.

I am willing to offer a ride to BRC. However, due to some horror stories posted on here, I want to get to know the riders before I actually make that offer.

PM me if you want to "apply"......LOL.

Be sure to read as much as you can on here and definitely the survival guide.

Use the search feature above too. If you don't and ask a question that has been answered several times, the veterns will be a bit snarky about it.....you gotta love them though, if you can get past all inside jokes and sarcasm they are a WEALTH of knowledge.(Of course, some think they are "wealthier" than others...LMAO)

Later and good luck,

i lost all of my knowledge when Lehman Bros. went down.

i am now just as stupid as your average newb.

it's ok though, sometimes it's nice to wipe the crust from ones eyes and see things anew.

Maybe Pepe will actually do something worth watching this year.

You are just the kind of Newb I like best. Welcome home, and don't forget to bring a cold drink for your Greeters. (And tell them you are a Virgin).

welcome to eplaya, jeff! There are lots of events in NY, where you can meet other burners. If you live in the city, there are weekly happy hours in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Are you on the NY regionals mailing list? http://regionals.burningman.com/us_ny_nyc.html

We tolerate East Coasters just so we can show off to our friends how open-minded we are. :)
