Hi, my name is Dion

Post by Dion » Wed Apr 29, 2009 11:09 pm

Hi everyone
I'm pretty excited about this huge thing, which I admire so much. I'll hopefully asist to my first Burning Man next year, when I turn 18.
I am 16 right now, turning 17 on August and pretty excited about this great event, but I have some few questions. I'm resident from Monterrey, Mexico; therefore I speack spanish, but my english is ok. I want to know, how do you get there? I think I shoud get a fly or something, but when I get there, what will I do? is there any map or something, or some kind of transportation I might use to arrive to the desert? I've got my questions, humm and I'ld be glad to meet new peopple who can share advices with me and other stuff. I think the Buring Man is an amazing event, I'm so excited to experience it by myself!! well any feedback will be highly appreciated :D
thankyou!!

My dear, if you are not a sock puppet now, you will end up as somebodies suck puppet if what you have written is true. You are truly a babe in the woods, with a juicy basket of goodies that wolves love to munch on. Beware, and be Wary...

i would lock my daughter down if she said these were her plans at such an age.

i highly suggest a traveling partner or chaperone.

i'll feel better, if not anything else.

Trust me, If Simon is saying this, then he's really saying to be careful...

antiM, question for you.. pointing out someone by name as a person to be careful of, is this ok?? It seems closer to the burn a few creepy folks start up each year and give me/others the hebbie jeepies... :?: :?: :?:

Wait, I'm confused. Simon implied that she should be careful. He didn't say who of. Are you saying that das Creepster who joins on August 15 will read
Simon's post and go after Dion?
Won't this thread be buried by then?

But yes, Dion, you have made yourself potentially vulnerable here. This community does have it's undesirables who might try to take advantage of your youth. Exercise caution.

Since Dion is under the age of 18, she CAN'T GET IN by herself.

Hey Dion! You must be 18 to attend the event without a parent or legal guardian!

But I didn't see a name of who to be careful of... and no, unless real world names are involved, warnings are okay.

She's talking about next year, when she will be 18.
And look at her profile, I doubt she's a sock puppet.
People often fly to the Reno, Nevada airport, and either rent a car or arrange a ride from there.
This board is a good resource for that.

I assure you, I have nothing but evil intentions for Dion. After she turns 18 of course.

Welcome to eplaya, Dion. Well it dependes which Monterrey you are in in Mex. If your by Tijuana or Juarez it's a pretty easy one day drive or you could hook up with burners across the border in San Diego or El Paso. If you're further south you could possibly hook up with some Texas burners for a ride. The other option listed above is to fly into Reno, Nevada, rent a car, and drive the hours it takes to get there. This option might not be the best for a first timer unless you are willing to do the research and the planning it takes to get everything pulled together when you get to Reno.

good, i feel better...

every year i see "free spirits" who somehow manage to hitch or whatever to BM and then hope that "the four winds" blows them a ticket and some way to survive for a week........before they head off to rainbow nationals and wherever phish is playing next.

i usually laugh at them.

i'm glad to see you're not a victim of happenstance.

hi dion, and welcome to the eplaya ...

i am not sure renting a car would be an option for an 18 year old from another country ... i was in italy with a 19 year old a few years back, she could not drive the rental car, even if we paid extra. maybe it's easier here in the US... ?

this sounds pretty good ... i wouldn't know, though

Welcome to eplaya Dion, try not to take things the wrong way here, there's a snarky air that wafts through the threads. If you've been lurking for awhile, or after you've been round these here parts a bit, you'll pick up on that. You'll learn some great stuff here, somethimes though you just have to wade through it all abit.

Good to hear that your coming with someone, not only is it a long trip but it's great to have a friend so you can watch each others back. Not that you wont make friends here and on the playa.

You can fly into Reno and rent a car however most agencies wont rent unless the driver is 25. Some have surcharges for 21-24. You wont need an international drivers license.

Good previous ideas to try and hook up with other burners closer to home, or in the SW stateside, both to help with info, and/or logistics.

Remember if flying in you'll need to supply before coming out to the playa.

The main burning man site has the survival guide and first timers guides, read them alot, and there is also info on where to find the burn. Never fear, once you make Gerlach your just following the crowd in, not to mention just look for the dust :D

Its good that you start preparing know.
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

well thanks then
no I dont have a daughter
now that I think about it, perhaps I would take her with me to the burning man
its funny to say, hum.. my boyfriend is old enough to rent the car, but well, thats just an option after all... the fly sounds good so far
Monterrey is exacty on the border, close to San Antonio, Texas.
Thanx for your wellcomes you all

I definatelly wanna meet other burners close to me and see what can I do about it
I'ld like to hear what goes on in the burning man during the week, like hum.. the most common stuff you have trouble with? or I dunno, I'm open to hear about everything

Every year people say you cant get in if your under 18 without notes, and blah blah blah. I have never been carded, no one in our entourage has ever been carded, and some have baby faces.

I am sure it happens, but when cars are stacked 10 wide, and 5 miles deep to get in at 10Pm, a lot gets through.

and Dion's not a sock or is real clever and using a unique IP that has never been used by another burner before.
