Hate emails sent in response to eplaya postings?

Off and on over the past 3 years I have received anonymous emails sent to me using a wide range of anonymous email remailing services around the world. After a several month break the emails have resumed and I want to share the email with the eplaya community to see if anyone else is getting this kind of filth!

Frankly, I've had enough of this crap, and I wanted to make this ongoing pattern of abuse public, and to ask for any and all help in getting to the bottom of it. I am also publicizing this issue on Twitter and tapping into other resources in hopes we can find people who know how to dig deep enough to out this idiot behind this.

This latest incident comes right on the heels of when I made a friendly comment to Cowboy Angel. But here's a second one for review:

Again, if anyone can offer additional info on who's behind this....any tips would be welcome and kept private. I simply want this crap to stop...and if it means tapping into every resource online I can find even trying to petition the 4chan folks to pursue this, then that is what I will do.

I'm posting this in Open Discussion for maximum visibility...but if the eplaya mods want to move it in a few hours, please feel free to do so. By the way this is tame...based on the patterns I've seen the individual is just warming up and it will get nastier and with more physical threats coming.

I've never had this sort of problem.. but than again I try to avoid getting into it with negative folks.

You DO have an extensive history with many folks both here and on Tribe, as you well know it could be anybody you've gotten into it with.

My best advice is to move on and delete the emails.. don't waste any time on them aside from clicking delete. For that matter don't even open anon emails.

How would they be able to get your personal email unless it was someone that work for eplaya or you gave it out to someone in the past.

Or was it on Tribe or some other discussion thread site.

You can block it as junk mail

change your email address

I never give out my personal contacts unless it was on a personal basis

And if anyone on eplaya should be getting Hate Mail it should be me, I attack everyone and every subject equally!

so it wasn't me that sent the emails to you.

I wouldn't waste my time when I can say it right here and get full publicity for it.

My hunch...it's someone I know. The reference to Precipitate tags them as a 3Playa participant. It greatly limits the amount of possible suspects.

By the way I'm not posting to gain sympathy...what I'm after is info. To learn if anyone else gets this sort of crap or am I the only one that it likes to annoy? I'm curious if CowboyAngel also gets this sort of crap since the perp seems to have a thing against him too...again..just want info and awareness.

I think you're right, it is someone you know. Check the email header information--especially IP addresses and originating email servers. You can then look them up on arin.net (or whatever might be the appropriate country registry) and you will find an abuse address and can report it.

Chances are that it will be an anonymous gmail, yahoo, etc. account that won't be worth the provider's time in tracing unless their are threats in the email; but maybe this guy is stupid enough to use a private email account.

but there relly isnt much to be done if it is anonymous. The pollie have tools to help if it continues. They have litmus tests though, have to be so many emails in such a period of time, with certain details etc.

If its connected to eplaya, you can get the IP, from there you can search directories to find more info, or if its a sock.

That clip isn't exactly what I had in mind, he isn't "in character" in that one. The best example is probably from the "I want my car" episode of iCarly.

In this show, Nevel has set up iCarly by having a friend of his tell the web show that he was the son of a car dealer and would give away a car to the winner of the contest. Since the car dealer had no idea, there is no way to give the prize. Nevel then uses the lack of a prize to have the web site shut down. He figures since there is no way they can deliver the prize, he gets the site shut down which he has been wanting to do ever since Carly refused to kiss him.

The dialog in the above clip at about 3:50 and 7:30 is what I was thinking of. Part 3 of that video is sweet, though, when Nevel gets his.

I also have someone that puts my e-mail addy into a program that sends it to spam mailing lists, from time to time, just hit delete and ignore it dude.

Kinetic, I wouldn't worry about this too much, though it's not fun of course.
If it goes to death threats, as I've received a bunch, that's when you report it to your local DA and police, as I did. CBS came out and did a story on me.

This is also why I display a, God forbid, pistol, in my tribe avatar, just in case any stupid individual had any home invasion ideas....

In gmail, click the down arrow next to "Reply" and click the link "Show original"

Either post the headers here with the email addresses starred out or PM it to me. This might not allow you to track down exactly who it is, but at least you'll be able to see where the email is coming from and possibly send a complaint to the person's ISP.
