Hello Burners! Photographer in the Sand. Let's Go!
Hello Burners! Photographer in the Sand. Let's Go!
Hello you silly sand covered souls. This will be my premier venture into the burner community and I'm looking to make some pre-burn connections as I'm currently without a community. I'll be traveling from Oakland, but would love to holla at some folks from my heart town, St. Louis, Mo.
I'm a photojournalist who plans on contributing in the best way a photographer can. Find me, let's jam and you'll even get a print to take home.
Looking for photographers who have experience with protecting equipment.
Also looking to contribute to the making of Evolution 2009 photo book.

One of the most important ways to protect your equipment is not to take photos--especially of nudes--without first asking.
Crowd scenes are probably okay.

If you really want to contribute stay on this board and learn some picture taking edict. I happen to love great photos from burning man and look forward to them every year. but there is an edict you should follow.
If you Don't......... then expect to get a very rude response for your gift.

From Sand To Dust
Welcome eHome.
And it is dust, not sand. Fine dust, like talcum powder.
AntiM,
Thank you for opening my eyes to this difference in such a way that doesn't make me feel like an idiot unlike 'MozyBonz'. I obviously have not stepped foot on the playa and have a lot to learn...which is why I posted.
My experience and education begins now and I can see that it's easy for others more experienced to forget that these posts here actually can have some weight.
Thank you all for you welcomes. I hope to continue meeting you and learning about this world to properly prepare myself for the venture. sc

Other than that, Welcome Lumen !! do you have a web site of your work?
Hey, Mozy's alright, just direct. Don't take it too personally. That's the beauty of the eplaya, you get a very wide range of responses to choose to listen to or not, as you like.

Lumeneye,
East Bay Burners get together fairly regularly, sort of.
tonight in fact:
7:00 -10: 00PM
North Beach Pizza in Berkeley
1598 University Ave @ California St, Berkeley, CA 94703
Since you are in Oakland, then you should keep an eye out for NIMBY events. (Been a slough of them recently, and dang if I didn't miss everyone because of family events
) There are one or two burners involved in that crowd.

Howdy,
I would say if you can't afford to kill it or lose it, don't take it. And that pretty much covers any possession, and possibly your limbs. We took gear and it was fine. Still haven't cleaned one other than wiping the lens and it's still going but I hear that's a freak occurance. Don't change lenses at all. Bring canned air. Don't leave it on your dash. You can get all paranoid and tape your seams and futzy with a ziplock bag but it's a pain in the arse. Ignore any and all attacks because you mentioned photog.
That's about it for the Readers Digest Condensed version.

Ok that’s not fair! You know I have an uncontrollable addiction to women.
This is like telling a crack head there is a rock of cocaine lying on the floor.
Great now that’s all I can think about. Where is my playa kitten when I need her?

Glad I didn't tell her that I can't say no to a sexy woman....?!?
D'oh! smacks head.
Very sexy avatar Red.
Red always looks sexy in her avatar

My all time favorite photo concerning photogs at BM.
I'm cool as long as I'm asked..
I get kinda annoyed when someone is filming me..
Only seems to happen when I have a flame cannon / thrower / effect or soaked socks on a chain in my hands..
I'm trying to learn poi now so if I set myself on fire I REALLY don't want to be photographed unless I'm wearing a mask..
I hope I can find a good mask cheep.

I like to take pictures out on the playa and inflict them on my friends, who continue to humor me.
If you have intentions beyond that for your pix it's a really good idea to check out
http://www.burningman.com/press/
The physical conditions are harsh for cameras, especially the omnipresent dust, but I've not had a camera problem in 10 years, so I feel that the risks are acceptable. NEVER change lenses, though.
