Choosing Airport and transportation
Sorry if this has been asked before but I am looking to fly in. I am guesing Reno or Empire as the best airport. How does one get tickets for Empire airport? Is it cheap. I like to use delta as I have some travel vouchers.
Also once there I hope to carpool. Or get any cervice that is setup.
anyone recomend an airport? time to come in for cheap tickets? Or anything else for flying burners?

Maybe Empire SHOULD have an international airport. It would certainly help to build the area up.
I have flown into BRC Airport 3 times and always had nice smooth landings. The view of BRC is amazing from the sky, and very exciting as you get closer and closer.
In 2008 there was the wreck of a plane that crashed a little earlier off to the side of the runway. I don't think anyone was hurt, but the plane was never going to fly again.

Don't forget the helipad at Wadsworth.
I'm sure the Empire airport is charter only. Unless you have your own plane. At any rate, no commercial flights.

I remember RNO 30 years ago when it was a shack with 4 terminals and you had to actually walk OUTSIDE and up the rolly staircase to get into the plane! It's enough that Reno built up it's airport lets not ruin Empire!

There IS an Empire and a BM Airport
Empire does have an airport, http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=40.58019 ... 9&t=h&z=16 . A separate airport is also set up as part of BM on the playa called the Black Rock Airport, www.burningman.com/on_the_playa/airport . There are no scheduled flights into either, but you can fly your own plane or charter on (if you can find a charter co whose insurance covers it).geospyder wrote:I was thinking the same thing as AntiM. Empire has an airport? Maybe a dirt strip.
While the BM airport is just set up during BM, Empire Airport is operational year around, www.airnav.com/airport/1A8 .
If you're flush with cash, you can get a FAA Private Pilots License in about 6 weeks, provided you fly every morning. Given the economy, flight schools have lots of availability and there are plenty of airplanes for sale.

I was thinking the same thing as geospyder, who was thinking the same thing as AntiM. Empire has an airport? Maybe they have, like, a dirt strip or something. As AntiM said, and then as geospyder said - Reno has a REAL airport.

You know, Fernly has one of those Potemkin Airports, and it is fabulous.DrPeffer wrote:I was thinking the same thing as geospyder, who was thinking the same thing as AntiM. Empire has an airport? I don't think a 6-week deep pilot should be attempting the flight and landing at Black Rock airport. Just sayin. If you're flush with cash, you can get a FAA Private Pilots License in about 6 weeks, provided you fly every morning. Given the economy, flight schools have lots of availability and there are plenty of airplanes for sale.

Re: Choosing Airport and transportation
To get the thread back on track...
For commercial flights, best bet remains Reno, then using one of the BM courier ground transpo methods. For flyers or those who wish to afford a charter aircraft, Black Rock Intl Airport puts you at the doorstep.
The OP was to try to get an airport for a non aviator close to the playa.SkatedSurferDude wrote:...I am looking to fly in. I am guessing Reno or Empire as the best airport. How does one get tickets for Empire airport?.. Also, once there, I hope to carpool. Or get any service that is setup...
