From Sacramento and 1st Time at Burning Man
Hello All,
This will be my first time at Burning Man. I am going with my husband, also a first timer. We bought our tickets in February and BM has consumed my exsistance ever since: Whats the right tent? Should we rent an RV? OMG, where are we going to go potty!?! And for that matter What the hell are we going to eat? etc etc etc. There is a lot of opinion out there and a lot of great advice. We have decided to go somewhat simple: A tent, Tarp attached to car, etc. We do have a Theme Camp we are staying with, which I hear is a good idea. So I am trying to not have many expectations and allowing the experience to be what it is.
I would love to meet other people in Sacramento (or perferably Orangevale/Folsom area).
Thanks for reading.

*nervous about being here before JK*
Welcome:
I'd suggest reading the survival guide, first timers guide, etc, etc.
do some searching and thread reading here, too.
You'll get a lot less snark and grief if you get the general info yourself and start asking specific questions.............
But, be prepared, you'll be getting snark and grief anyway, just sit back and enjoy it..........
*employing super self restraint regarding info related to "harvey hut" tokens, super '6' accommodations, and " sunrise bacon buffet breakfast bonanza"*

I still live in river city, just never get down there (310 miles from where I sit). College Greens area, near the University, between Watt and Howe right on 50.

you see we deliver, i said i live NEAR buffalo, as it has major sports teams, people actually know where it is, so for reference it's just easier.
I reside in River city, The ROC, "Little detroit" as it's so affectionately known.
we look down our long noses at Buffalonians and their Polock, Blue collar ways.
We are a much tougher, meaner HARDER city, hence the nickname of the ROC.
we even have the highest murder rate per person, and the worst slums and informal yet stringent segregation between city / suburb (city over 60% minority, suburbs over 90% white) in the Great Empire state, as well as the highest drop out rate and teen pregnancy rate.
a study in opposites.
the suburbs boast some of the finest school districts in the country, and our white collar work force is nearly double that of other mid-size cities across the country, as well as a superior selection of colleges and universities.
we also had the first riots in 1964.
i often say that Rochester is Haunted, by the ghost of past greatness, and the strange people and history that developed around a town where the river flows due north along a magnetic leyline, and our town hero, Sam Patch, who died after an attempt to jump our high falls, having survived the mighty Niagara.
he threw his pet bear in first, and when it made it just fine, waved to the crowd and jumped to his death, not to be seen for many weeks when he resurfaced downstream.
Needless to say, Sam lost the bet that he had between him and Rattlesnake Pete, a local tavern owner as to whether or not he would die.
it only gets weirder.

At the rate that the "Big Detroit" keeps shrinking every year, we may be trading monikers in the near future.Simon of the Playa wrote: I reside in River city, The ROC, "Little detroit" as it's so affectionately known.
I spent close to 2 yrs at Travis Air Farce Base. Discovered concerts out there. Sac Memorial Auditorium, the Cow Palace, Concord Pavillion, Day on the Green shows at Oakland Col. Can't complain about the laser rock shows at Morrison Planetarium either. Dog, the acid was good then
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

HI VIOLET!! I'm Monkeypoo! Your first year?!! Rock on!! You are gonna fucking love this lifestyle. Changed my life forever, I can tell you that. Can't speak for the others. Your mileage may vary, but I trust it will change your life too. Obsessive consuming thoughts about everything? Welcome to our world.
I am in Citrus Heights! Born and raised here in Cali, moved around a lot, just moved back HOME in January from a 4 year stint in beautiful North Carolina. I would LOVE to meet you. Been a burner since 2003. Was always searching for something, ya know, wanting to find out where I fit into something. Then I found it. Burning Man. These folks are my real family. I'm sure you'll find, as well, that burners are a special group of folks and you fit in perfectly.
I am so excited you are here!
Hugs!!

Well, correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure there is a hard coded one murder per person limit. It's only murder if you die, and nobody (generally) gets two deaths. There are rare exceptions, but those are mostly not murder, but accidental. Drowning in a frozen over lake and later reviving comes to mind. I am sure I have read or heard of others but not recalling specifics atm.

Welcome Violet
Hi I'd love to meet you. I'm a second year burner who lives in Sac (near La Riveria and Watt). I work in Folsom and would love to meet up with you some time to chat.
Like I said last year was my first year, it was a crazy year for me all together. My life did a uturn on me and I moved out to California from Colorado in August 08. Burning Man was like opening the door to a new part of my life. I have always been interested in non-normal things like belling dancing and costumes. Burning Man took it to a whole new level and my interests grew in to things like pole dancing, running around naked and playing with fire. Best of all I know there is a place where being "not quite normal" is embraced.
Last year I read everything I could get my hands on about Burning Man so I would know what to bring. I endlessly watched YouTube and searched Flicker so I would know what to wear. I made lists for everything so I wouldn't forget anything. I studied the theme camp registry and familiarized myself with the map so I wouldn't get lost. I poured over the schedule so I could use my time most efficiently and see and do everything.
When I arrived, the schedule was forgotten. I didn't use 1/4 of the stuff I brought. In fact, some days we didn't even make it back to camp. It was over whelming, it’s not something you can describe - you need to experience it. It’s wonderful.
So Congratulation on getting your tickets!
I love to chat pandora422 at hotmail.com if you want to talk about anything from theme camps to RV's. Jana

Jana, I used to live on Sawtelle, just off of La Riv for years. Now I'm in Newcastle but work near Arden and I-80. If you are looking for any local support, I'd be happy to share our experiences with you. Or check out our website www.barbiedeathcamp.com .
