I did not know there were so many issues with medical marijuana use in the US...I just figured that either it's legal or it's not <shrug>.

I just wish the US would legalize it, it seems that the biggest reason it's still technically illegal here in Canada is that it would screw up the trade agreements & borders with the US, so we can't legalize it until you do or else our economy is fucked.

Meh, probably never gonna happen, but I do hope things get more reasonable with the medicinal issue.

First Test of the new administration:

Jail Term to Be Sought in Medical Marijuana Case

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/24/us/24pot.html?fta=y

By SOLOMON MOORE
Published: April 23, 2009
LOS ANGELES — Government lawyers asked a federal judge on Thursday to impose a five-year sentence on the owner of a marijuana dispensary, less than a month after Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced that federal authorities would not prosecute owners of medical marijuana shops if they complied with local and state laws.

But the United States attorney for the Central District of California, Thomas P. O’Brien, argued that the dispensary owner, Charles C. Lynch, had broken state laws because he was not a primary caregiver to his customers — a requirement under California law — and provided no medical services beyond the sale of marijuana.

Judge George H. Wu, a Bush appointee who is hearing his first federal case, postponed sentencing until June 11, by which time he will receive final briefings from government and defense lawyers. Judge Wu seemed inclined at times Thursday to hand down a lighter sentence than the government was seeking but repeatedly said he was constrained by federal mandatory minimum sentencing laws.

All this shit has got to end. I read the blotter in the paper and almost every one is related to Pot.

Time to stop wasting my tax dollars on recreational drug users!

first:
I'm for legalization and or decriminalization.........it's a matter of freedom, responsibility, and self determination, IMHO........

that said:
I think a lot of what screws up the argument is that so many people, get "phoney" scrips, just so they can use recreationally, and, make the argument based on medical need, when, it's obvious, for them, it's not the case..........

Just call it what it is:
"I want pot legal 'cause I like it"

or:

" I really do need it for a condition, and, it really helps (with all honesty and sincerity)"

in conversation, listening to all these users making some goof ball argument for legalization related to medical need, when, you can totally see they just want easier access to their "drug of choice"..

Again,
I have no problem with it. But, for many folks "on the fence" of public opinion and therefore sentiment, I think they lump everyone under the umbrella of "they just want it easy to get".........

just some random thoughts.........

Feds stop prosecution of all Medical Marijuana grower and dispensaries!

Now some states want to regulate it. Stupid Monkeys that was what the voters ask for in the first place. Some states want to have it grown by prisoners- how the hell do these idiots get elected! Our prison can ever control drug use in them!

I thing this is a good proposal because it will lead to all Pharmaceuticals companies becoming Non-Profit because some states want the dispensaries to be Non-Profit! Government can't ask for one form of pharmaceuticals to run their business one way and another not! So this may be one way to control drug prices across the board for all consumers.

Ok I should have proof read the thing, but if you read the article it is clear that many states in writing the laws to legalize Med Marijuana did not do the jobs that the people asked for when they wrote the Bill!

yes, it was like, OK lets legalize med pot! OK!

One of the most stupidest laws are the one where suppliers can only sell to a few buyers- So now you have a ton of growers! that will keep down it growth!

my cynical self says a big part of it being illegal, is, the bribes given to lawmakers to keep it illegal, by the dealers/growers...........

for,
if it's legal, then, the price comes down and their fortunes are, too...........

but, then again, that's just my thinking.........

Just my two cents...

Post by lonestoner916 » Tue Oct 27, 2009 6:37 pm

I believe that because relaxation and stress relief are therapeutic, ALL marijuana use is medicinal. Now, of course it's not for everyone, it can cause paranoia and laziness in some, and like all medicines it can be used excessively. But a little weed never hurt nobody! It does not rot your brain and it will not drive you to rape young girls and abuse heroin. Your parents did that...

I don't know how it was for the other states, but in the great state of California, when the authors of Proposition 215 (Among them my friend/hero Dennis Peron) wrote the initiative they were deliberately vague. This is why it's so easy to get medical marijuana for almost any ailment in California. Aids and Cancer sure, but also migraine headaches, anxiety, and restless legs syndrome.

Is it right that doctors are getting rich writing bogus scripts at two-hundred bucks a pop for slackers suffering from nothing more than chronic unemployment? Not really, but it's a far worse thing for these slackers to be thrown in jail for possessing a small bag of organic plant matter.

Hopefully, Obama's decision to take a state's rights stance on Medical Marijuana will lead to further legalization and decriminalization, which in turns keeps people out of jails and prisons and creates jobs. As Martha would say, "It's a good thing."

My personal point is that this is all bullshit.
