Wow those are great. I have a Amaryllis Hippeastrum 'Mont Blanc' in bloom right now.the bloom is huge it looks like this one below. I took some pictures of it today. I will post tomorrow( or today depending on when you read this). this is the third year I have been able to bring it to bloom and not kill it.

orchids are tuff for me to keep alive. that's why I was so pleased. when I had blooms on one of the three I have been able to keep alive the last two years.

i love amaryllis! i had one going for a few years, but find orchids easier, for my situation, anyhow .... amaryllis grows in the ground here, there's a house down the street with huge clumps of them, they're gorgeous!

but orchids ... they need warmth, but not heat ... lots of humidity, but without watering them often ... bright light, but little direct sun (depending of the kind of orchid). i just have a good set up, LA is nearly subtropical anyhow, i even keep a few sun-loving tropicals outside year round (under a screen in summer). i can see how they would be a challenge in sacramento... it's hotter, colder, and considerably less humid than so cal.

do you have a room with south-facing windows? i've often read that's the best ... if you could find a bright spot that you could keep warmer/cooler and more humid, you'd have more luck?

Hi Ya Piney! Yep, we're OK but lots and lots to do. I have lots of friends and clients in crisis. I think about a third of the city's population was evacuated. This was probably the scariest fire event that I have seen. It got pretty hairy for a while and we were lucky the winds cooperated when they did or the loss would have been unbelieveable. The fire line was poised to take down much of the city (the downtown!) if it had made another run on Friday like it did on Thursday night. The firefighters are incredible heroes. HERE'S TO OUR REAL - LIFE HEROES!!!!!!!

I try to grow mine in pots so that they can be transferred into a display pots so I can bring them in the house and display them at full bloom.

I did some black tulips for Easter this year. And the Amaryllis has been for Mothers day.
In my koi pond I have some pink pond lilies that bloom the week before Burning Man
The back fence is covered in honey suckle and jasmine and is currently in full bloom along with the sweet peas and roses.

Looking to put in a small green house just for tropicals like orchids and my bonsai trees.

Drink?

yes, please! i love all those flowers .... especially sweet peas! but i they don't grow so well in pots, and that's all i have, being an urban apartment dweller.

Just dropping by. Well, some of you know my current status and some do not. Here goes and I am so not making this up.

Thursday May 7, yours truly was in a head on collision. Car totalled (I was cited!) I was knocked out. CT scan is fine. Seen a DC and he did some tests that shown positive for head injury. GOing to see a Neuro next week. GOing to pick up a bike from a friend's house (course I gotta walk there). No, I do NOT have collision on my policy so I am screwed (and not in the good way).

I'm fine. Just going through a bit of bad luck right now. I will see you soon.
