Evolution of the BRC Playa Portraits
The project title is the BRC Playa Portraits. My intention is to build a large-scale studio to photograph and honor the Mutant Vehicles of Burning Man at Black Rock City, Nevada in September of 2009. The portraits will be photographed on a medium that is at the edge of extinction, 4x5 type-55 Polaroids. The fine art documentation of these unique rolling sculptures captures their imperative historical value in the context of postmodern utilitarian American Art.
The idea of this project started in 2008 when Polaroid announced their stop of production. Ironically, the same year Burning Man’s theme was the “American Dream.â€

Lemme guess, five posts is five different threads that you started, all pretty much saying the same thing.
We call that cross-posting and frown upon it.

fishy, as you might know already, people who use all three of their names, or emphasize the middle initial usually have very healthy egos.
i did see the web site, and did like some of the poloroids, they do have a certain Joel Peter Witkin thing going on, but nothing really gee whiz this is new and fresh...
i hate being a critic of peoples art, i'm hard enough on myself, but yeah, the repetition is redundantly multiple.
Owen, we know you take poloroids, and actually your ambition to photograph the Mutants is commendable, especially in the scale you are talking about.
Just Dont ask us for the money though.

My bad about the cross posting. I'm new to Eplaya and it won't happen again. I use the middle name, because there is another gentleman who also happens to be a photographer out of London that goes by Owen Kelly. I try to keep my ego humble and healthy, but interesting theory on the middle name thing. I am spreading the word on the project and I would love for people to stop by and check it out and/or participate. fYI, I appreciate your constructive feedback on my work. Thats how we artists grow. cheers
will you be using black and white or color for the mutants?
i didnt look thru them all, but the portraits i saw were all black and white which sort of added a steam-punk aesthetic to them...
and yes, it is evident you know your lighting.
I'll be using B/W type-55 from the final batch Polaroid produced.
