First Burn
So I am REALLY excited to head to the playa for the 1st this summer. My boyfriend will be going for the second time and he told me he does not think I can handle burning man. "We party at different speeds" he tells me. "Sometimes you cant escape the craziness" I took his statement personally and told him that I can have my own experience and that I can do what ever I want at Burning man, with or without him. So i guess i am asking.....if I am not the 24/7 loud, thumping music, trip my balls off, go freaking wild type girl can I still find people like me who I can experience the man with?

Sweetie....you don't need a man to enjoy the MAN....
This is my first burn, too. I am bringing major ear plugs. (I learned that from this sight.)
I figure I will do what I want, sleep when I want, etc.
Don't let him scare you off.....I can not imagine anyone not having a good time, unless they show up with a bad attitude.

I'm absolutely not the crazy-ass party animal burner. And I think I enjoy Burning Man more than most who are. Burning Man is not only about the party. If it is for you, then it is my perception that you're missing a lot.
I like to wake up at 7-8, brew coffee, make some breakfast, then hop on my bike and go visit installations. In the evening, I find a cool hangout, drink a few beers, fool around for some times and usually I'm home by midnight.
Of course, one or two nights of all-out party is always nice, but really, it isn't just about getting trashed.
You'll have a blast, I promise. Worst case, give me a call and we'll hang out at the mellower spots.

where is hushville?
I am coming to burning man for the first time and would like to get at least a few hours sleep and find a cool place to hang out in the heat of the day. Any ideas on where to go in the afternoons and how to get to hushville? Thanks

Hushville requires pre-registration at Hushville.com. Registration does not open until later in the summer. Even if you register , camping there is still first come, first serve and you must provide everything you need. There is no central shade area or kitchen or showers. We are a village, we are not a theme camp. Still, it is a very good community and helpful to firsties.
Where to go in the afternoons? Your very own camp.

There will be plenty of places to chill out, both day time and at night. The whole place is not 1 giant rave running non-stop. Look at the list of theme camps from last year to get an idea of the mellower side of Burning Man. Heck, there's even a sock monkey making workshop in Kidsville, doesnt get any chiller then that.
just don't tell em I spike the sippy cup juice

Thanks for replies
I appreciate the responses I got from you guys, I am sooo excited about this trip. Burning man seems like the greatest event ever created and I so need to do this! This will be the most exciting thing I have ever done in my entire life, I am sure. I am a shy person, but love people, music, ect. and I only hope I can break out of my shell to fully participate and get the most from my experience in this community. I have about 1 million questions so I hope you helpful people don't get sick of me before we ever meet ( if we ever do) Thanks again, I look forward to learning from your experiences.

Too Late..
Hey someone had to say it..
No really, welcome. Read the guide over and over.
Ask your new neighbors once you it the Playa any question you might have. You'll find they will bend over backwards to help..

warm welcome
Thanks for that. I have read last years booklet, the reading for first timers watched 2 documentaries and read burning man art in the desert. I want to be fully prepared so I can have a good time and be able to find the places and events I want to go to. I am sure that all the prep in the world isn't as helpful as actually going and experiencing it for myself, but I try.
