Bike basket you can lock?
I've been on the look out for a bike basket which I can lock as we don't always want to cart around our drinks, coats with us all the time when we are stop off.
Does anyone have any suggestions, either lockable bike baskets that would work with a cruiser style bike, or perhaps a way to make one ourselves?
Thanks!

I don't know, if you're talking about bringing something like that to the playa, you'll probably be fine, I don't think many people are going around picking locks on people's things. Yes, it does happen, but we've never even had a problem keeping our things in an unlocked regular bike basket. Just remember if you're really concerned about something getting stolen or misplaced, probably shouldn't bring it with you. We always make sure to only bring things we wouldn't be devastated about losing.unjonharley wrote:50$ to have some low life knock it off with a just to see if anything is in it..phil wrote:Here let me google lockable bike basket for you:

Master and Abus make a multi-link hasp that works on tricky applications.
The Master Python has a cable and tensioner and can tie a coat to a bike, etc.
It acts as a clamp or strap, as well as a lock.
They stand up to the playa okay.
Standard is a 6 foot cable.
Note- The walmart chinese version by Master is not the same as the usa version or "industrial" model.
Same with hitch locks.
Be aware that this cable can be cut by even a small set of good bolt cutters.
Good enough for casual theft though, I think.
For serious security, use a hardened alloy chain by Abus or Master, etc.

I like the ammo-can Idea myself. Wouldn't be hard at all to mount to your handlebars. I doubt wind resistance would be a factor, with an ammo box...but, you could drill holes in the sides to help...or better yet, let me get the box, and put a few holes in it at 4th of juplaya!! Theses boxes are sturdy as fuck, and water-proof, if you dont put holes in them.
Or...maybe, get one of those racks that mount over the rear wheel...and bolt an ammo-box to it... Nuts and Locking-washers on the inside!!!!No steering obstruction....problem solved! If you want, I'll still shoot holes in it for you!!

anything worth doing is worth overdoing..
ammo can hasp ideas. You might want to paint it white, not sure if this will keep the heat in it down, but with a sealed container this will be an issue. I have a removeable bike/shopping basket that is not a locking container, but I lock it to my bike with a short coated thin cable that is sold to lock removeable seats onto bikes, I thread it through my helmet as well, and join it to my main bike lock and cable. I put a lock on an ammo can that I can put my bike battery in and will use one of these cables to keep it locked to my bike. I still need to figure out how to ventilate the box, and haven't used it yet. It had a large hole on the closing flap, and I just drilled a hole and put an eye bolt through it.

here's a locking box you can bolt to your rear bike rack, probably a few out there that are similar

re: the grill. I've been looking at a product called grilliput. It is available online in several places. It's a steel tube that contains all the cross pieces and legs for a grill. You can also buy a charcoal holder that looks sort of like a vegetable steamer, with petals that open out to a dish. I wasn't certain if you wanted to fit a grill in the basket, or use the basket as a grill.

I saw the grilliput on some network show and they suggested using a reflective bowl or something underneath to focus heat.Elorrum wrote:re: the grill. I've been looking at a product called grilliput.
