Hey, nice font size and color. I like it.

We sometimes tell people that where we are, Tionesta, Ca. is the "edge of nowhere" while Gerlach and Emipire are the middle of nowhere"

by the way, there is a "sign painter" living in Gerlach, works at joes as a bartender. I think he has done all the Black Rock City signs for the last several years. He is British and I think his name might be Gary.

I don't know if anybody remembers the bill boards several years ago on I-80 between Reno and Winnemucca.
Some that I remember were,
Winnemucca....city of paved streets.
Winnemucca....over 50 billion people have never been there
Winnemucca....a whole lot of miles away from Tokyo, etc.

You could do something similar on the way to Empire.

Empire...we sleep 50 weeks of the year.
Empire...still Washoe county.
Empire...at least it's not Denio!

Ok, those are pretty lame, but you get the jist!

Have you ever seen the bilboard for Battle Mountain??? "The Armpit of America"

I would't even think of something that tacky!Sorry..but once you live here (OK...I haven't been here that long) the smallness, remoteness, simpleness kinda grows on you. AND...the quiet... shhhhh
Yesterday and the day before, two Pronghorn Antelope were grazing about 75 yards from the front of the store!

"Empire-- right square in the middle of Empire!"

"Empire-- we have a STORE!"

"Empire-- just like New York, only completely different!"

"Empire, stop in, we don't bite (intentionally)"

(This would be much easier if one of the past-times this friend of mine and I engage in while driving somewhere were NOT making up slogans to drive people AWAY from a town/other area! Such as "Empire-- just keep moving...")

And all these years I thought the Armpit of America was Fresno!
(my apologies to any Fresnoites out there)

I've managed to miss that one, for some reason when driving that direction, it's usually dark by the time we get to Battle Mountain.
That's awesome that you have antelope that close. We sometimes get the wild horses down at the park a few blocks away in the winter.

Welcome to Empire
Now go home.

Its an old one, but seems kind of fitting, if you think about it.
What other people think about you is none of your business.

For the record, the store had nothing to do with that, it was merely the Dude running the gas station during the burn days.

I am not dropping any names here, but the locals know who he is..........

And there is definitely NO shortage of weeds around here. Shit loads of Honeydews too! Honeydew this and Honeydew that! That's allright...it looks better every single day!
