Green Tortoise Camp

Post by BritishFlowerBoy » Fri May 22, 2009 2:52 pm

Hey people, a BM virgin here from London England.

I thought I'd sign up and test the virtual waters of anybody planning to take the Green Tortoise 5 day BM trip.

It'd be cool to know a few screen names I guess in the build up to the happy occasion.

Keep flowering,
Tee.

If they offered 7 day or 8 day options I would use em. 5 days just isn't enough time in BRC. They are an awesome hostel tho, I always hear great things about em.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

I've heard good things about Green Turtle too. Regarding 5 days--for a first time burner, it might be enough. My first burn I flew in on Thursday and out early Monday morning. It was perfect. Now, I'm there 3 days early and out late too, but I'm glad my first time was a shorter introduction.

GT is great. I went on a backpacking trip to Mexico through them. It's too bad they don't offer longer trips. They provide great food and it's a good base to connect with a bunch of people on a bus from random places.

GT is the Best!

Post by Coastburner » Sat May 23, 2009 7:38 pm

I've taken Green Tortoise to Burning Man the last six years. This will be my seventh. These guys are great. They provide the ride, food, water and a place to camp. You bring your tent and help either cook, clean or prepare each meal and you'll be happy you did it. You'll meet great people from all over the world. You'll see some of the same people from previous trips. Everyone is GREAT from the Green Tortoise staff. They're nice people - Lyle, Shawna and everyone else are great. I can't say enough about GT. Anyway, I'm going up with them again this year. I can't wait. Introduce yourself while we're waiting for the buses to take off or once we get to camp. It's a big group but a small family so we'll definately run into each other.

Try to talk them into doing a bus trip for arrival in BRC at midnight Sunday/Monday morning before 6AM. Also a departure bus for Monday afternoon from BRC and the ability to arrive on the first bus. I think they might find the business if they ask about. I know I would certainly use em if they had the longer stay option available.

A week would be great!

Post by Coastburner » Sun May 24, 2009 11:29 am

Yeah, I would love to get on the playa earlier for once so I could stay the whole week and see the city built. It always takes a day to acclimate anyway. That said, they always sell out the trips and usually have a waiting list so I don't think they'll change it anytime soon.

I went on two other EPIC Green Tortoise trips. They changed my life because I met really good lifelong friends on these trips.

Never to the BM trip, though, if I were single I think that would be a great way to go to BM.

That being said.. it gives them even more reason to add more buses. Considering that they are selling out n such there is obviously the demand. Maybe alot of us folk that like the GT peeps should lobby them for next year. I'm sure if there is enough of a demand far enough in advance they would do it. If memory serves when I inquired in the past I was told there was a fear of having a bus that didn't get booked and that they would lose money etc. If we could get a busload to commit to the full week and have the days decided than essentially we would just be doing a giant rideshare via their hostel. Personally I would probably stay a few days before and after at their hostel in addition to the ride. Alot of nice things to see n do in SF that I've never gotten around to.

Green Tortoise is awesome. Used them last year and will take the trip again this year. THe first year i went solo and i must say the Green Tortoise is much better. Such a relief to not worry about food and water. Green Tortoise was definately the heathier option for me and it was great meeting people from all over the globe.

Just got back from a sweet trip to the canyons of the west. Good group of people. Say hi to Sully (driver) for me just in case I don't catch him on the playa.

Hi

I've just booked the GT trip which is the 6 night one, leaving in the morning on Tuesday 1 Sept and coming back during the daytime on the Monday. I'm a solo girlie and it'll be my first BM...can't wait to get involved but I am slightly in awe of the amount of preparation I've got to do for it and a little dubious about the heat and dust out there! But having survived the mud baths at Glastonbury and at Glade Festival I'm sure I'll cope somehow ;-)

I would like to hook up with any fellow GT travellers if poss...*waves at Bam Bam, Coastburner, Madam and BritishFlowerBoy*. I'll be staying at the GT Hostel in SF for a couple of days before we leave so would be nice to meet anyone who is doing the same. :)
