Thanks for posting that Deb,

I am still waking up on a daily basis with a piece of my heart torn out.

The healing process can be a long thing, sometimes.

We were glad to help you out, and the way you were treated will forever skew my opinion of how I viewed some of Caleb's/My shared "friends".

Peace be wih you....and we will see you again in just a short time from now.

Thanks Dick;

Couldn't have gotten through those few days without you and Becky. You are stalwart burners. I am forever in your debt for taking me in without even knowing who I was except Caleb's last girlfriend.

And at Frog Pond, you and Wheelgunner kept the peace and should be awarded blue UN helmets.

Your monolith was a tremendous idea and it burned so well. Thanks for the special effort you went to for Caleb. And thanks for helping me put a message to Caleb inside your art. It really was the best burn. I know he was smiling down at you for that. (I also know he's in heaven 'cause there'd be too much competition in hell).

At least all the nasties self-identified on Tribe so we know who to stay away from. Unfortunately it's still going on in private emails, but I know which ones to delete before I even read them.

Otherwise, what a beautiful community we have!

The burn at Ocean Beach was so special with Chaski performing the chanting and burning the palo santos (copala) wood. Reno's ceremony may have been meaningful for some but it was horrible for me except that the printed program had my eulogy included at least. Frog Pond really was a great burn and the gun salute didn't frighten me as much as I thought it might. Then going to Seattle, I met with some of Caleb's friends there for reminiscences and to share their grief and stories.

I'm finding it difficult to adjust to being alone but time will lessen the pain, I hope and I'm told. I know that you and many others will share this for some time to come too. Caleb has left a rather large hole in our lives. I hope his soul is at peace and that we will be at peace eventually.

Deb
PS Hugs to Becky, I hope her neck is doing better after the accident.

Cowboy Angel;

Don't worry, I'm not reading any of it. I had enough to last me a full lifetime in Reno.

Thank goodness the other events were so special.

Oh and Dick I forgot to write that all those burn pictures in the video slideshow were yours and Becky's. Sorry about that. I did acknowledge this contribution when I put it on Tribe but it slipped my mind today. Becky got some great shots.

Thanks Crypto;

Of course, that's a perfectly sensible idea to block them. I'm not thinking entirely sensibly just yet.

We must meet on the playa this year, Crypto. I was going to try to interview you for the Beacon before but it didn't happen. Looking forward to meeting you in real life. Besides I have a secret for your ears only!

Off to change my email settings.

Deb- I'm sorry for your loss. You seem to be handling it well- utilizing this dark time to support causes/ideas that both you and Caleb supported. You're one tough cookie! Keep it up!

I've never been to a burn, haven't befriended many burners, haven't met you nor Caleb- but the way this community is coming together in memory and support of fellow burners/friends... it's not something you see everyday in the 'real world.' I am glad that the BM community is filled with exactly the type of people that I hoped/am hoping to meet this year! As for the mean people- don't listen to them. Those are the people who do not understand because they are stuck on one of the lower mind circuits. Let them bother each other. You have a loving family here and I look forward to meeting you at BM this year.

xismim;

Thank you for writing to express your condolences. I'm glad that you have discovered the best part of our community and recognize that mean-spirited people can be burners too. We can ignore them together.

Some call me a tough ol' bird but I ignore them too! :D

As for handling this situation well, hmmmm that depends on the moment. Beef Jerky can really set me off. But I'm up to planning a few hours in advance now instead of hour by hour or second by second as it was in the beginning.

I look forward to meeting you at the Burn this year too. You'll be able to find me at the Black Rock Beacon camp where I help write the newspaper. We've been in the 9:00 Plaza the last couple years. Drop in to pick up your daily newspaper and be sure to ask for me.

Hopefully you'll meet some burners from your area soon and get some ideas for where you'll camp, etc.

Thanks,
Deb

My housemate is currently climbing Mt. Shasta with Wheelgunner to honor his brother who died in a car accident in Gerlach a year ago this weekend.

I imagine whatever thought/prayers/words are being said on that mountain this weekend will probably take into account Shooter's passing.

Not to offend you, Laughing forest, but Wheelgunner is very much on his way to work as a bouncer at the Shaft in Winnemucca right now as I type this.
You must know someone else who goes by "Wheelgunner", I suppose.

I'm really sorry to have mixed up the names.

I was thinking of Tyler Monteleoni (also known to some as Ranger Rommel)
who died a year ago. His brother Russell (aka Tika) and my housemate are on Shasta this weekend.

Please excuse the mixing up of handles/names.

My bad.

Mount Shasta is not connected to any nearby mountain; it rises abruptly from miles of level ground which encircle it, standing nearly 10,000 feet (3,000 m) above the surrounding area.

The mountain has attracted the attention of poets, authors, and presidents. Shasta was memorably described by the poet Joaquin Miller:

"Lonely as God, and white as a winter moon, Mount Shasta starts up sudden and solitary from the heart of the great black forests of Northern California."

Naturalist and author John Muir said of Shasta:

"When I first caught sight of it over the braided folds of the Sacramento Valley, I was fifty miles away and afoot, alone and weary. Yet all my blood turned to wine, and I have not been weary since."

Theodore Roosevelt said

"I consider the evening twilight on Mt. Shasta one of the grandest sights I have ever witnessed."

Mariners witnessing the ash cloud of the most recent eruption in 1786 sometimes referred to Mount Shasta as the "Lighthouse of the Pacific."

The photo below is from the East, near Newell, Ca.

You're right Barbie. Shasta, Hood, Rainier, Baker, Three Sisters, Jefferson, all of em are members of the Cascade Range. They don't look connected because basically, they are volcanoes...all of them.

Quite true and, what Cowboy said. But the post mention 'nearby' mountains which Shasta really has no claim to.

Now, if you wanna really throw a joker into the deck well, what up with the Sutter Buttes?

Geological anomaly or last remnant of the Cascade range?

DEB & CALEB'S LAPTOP

Post by keepers » Tue May 26, 2009 10:57 pm

I have recently discovered that Caleb's girlfriend has left with Caleb's laptop that holds all of his stories, poems, articles and photos from Iraq and personal. This should go to Caleb's father KEN SCHABER of Buchanan Michigan. Caleb's belongings, especially his personal laptop should rightfully go to his father.

Though I do understand that Deb may want to copy a few things and I have absolutely no hatred for the poor woman. She seems to be a nice person and may not be thinking clearly at this moment of pain in her life, which I completely understand. But it is and should be left to Caleb's father to decide what Deb should have of Caleb's. Not the other way around.

Please Deb, if you are still holding Caleb's laptop and other personal belongs, pleased do the right thing and send them Caleb's father. He lost his son. He needs these things to carry on and make sense of the situation as well as somthing to hold onto. Thank you Deb.

Rest in peace Caleb. You are be missed.

Cheesus, not this shite all over again.

Anyway Cowboy, you were saying...
IMHO:

And that's one of the biggie questions of west coast/California/Cascadia geology. The Sutter Buttes appear to be an anomaly of sorts but geo studies suggest (to date) that they could have formed 1) as the southernmost extension of the Cascade or 2) represent a singular eruptive hot spot due to long past subduction of the Pacific plate beneath the N. Americ plate just before the subduction zone was zipped up by the now active San Andreas fault.

NOTE: I know this is a tad off topic but isn't it better than reading the accusations of pained folks snarling about the property of a dead man?

Keeper;

Someone has lied to you. How unfortunate that you chose to put that lie here instead of finding out the truth.

If you would like to read the entire bullshit story about the computer, you can refer to this thread on the Burning Man tribe. But that might require you to read the whole thing because if you only read part of it, you'll only get part of the story.

http://bm.tribe.net/thread/b18914b2-72f ... 259827d1f4

I do not have the computer. It was given to Ken Schaber.

Thank you for bringing up all that misery again. Maybe you should consider finding out the truth ahead of time before posting to a public board. And please have the courtesy to tell the gossip who told you this to go read that thread too.

I have done nothing but honour Caleb's memory and I am sick to death of gossips who start rumours and those who spread them thereby besmurching my name and dishonouring Caleb's memory.

You, keepers, owe me an apology.

Enough already,
Deb

Deb

I have been avoiding posting here in that even though I am a local here I didn't know Caleb or you.
Two deaths like this in a year up here is kind of tough.

Then I started to see the pictures of you guys, and I and reading about his life. Had to laugh a little to myself, I know that vechile, I have seen you guys.

I wish I could have known him. He reminds me of many, old friends.

Hope you find peace.
Steve
