When will the playa placement questionaire be availiable?

Post by metamorph » Fri Oct 10, 2008 7:29 pm

Does anyone know when the playa placement questionaire for theme camps will be availiable for 2009? On the webpage it says it will be up for a few months leading up to burning man. But what does that mean? Does anyone know the exact date? I would like to know so I can get the spot I want for our theme camp or close to it before it gets taken. Also, does anyone know when the playa calendar will be availiable to add to? And what kind of questions does the questionaire consist of? THANK YOU :)

Types of questions. What does the camp do? Interactivitywise. Are there any flame effects. how many people.

and the calendar maybe July.

To further clarify, the questionnaire has a place where you list your top three areas of preference, i.e.: 3:00 Plaza, Esplanade, Center Camp. That's as specific as you can get in your request. The placement team will go thru all of the questionnaires, review the plans, interactivity, and theme of each camp and then create a layout based upon all of that info. You won't know exactly where you are placed until you actually get to the playa. In early August, the Placement list gets released which gives you the rough area and camp size. Deep study of the placement list can help you glean a little more info, and you can find out if you are on a corner or not, but beyond that, you'll have to wait and see! IMHO the placement team does an awesome job of putting camps in arrangements that work well, like not having 8 bar camps next door to each other, etc. It has to be tough trying to meet everyone's quirky requests and make sense of all of the info they get deluged with! There were over 700 placed camps in 2008! As long as you get your form in by the deadline, you stand as good a chance of getting into the area you want as you ever will. Early submissions, as far as I can tell, don't gain any favor. The questionnaire came out in early March this year if I recall correctly.
A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

You forgot the part where you won't even get placed if your camp idea sucks.

Be sure to have something interactive, visually stunning, and inviting....or you might get denied placement.

if you have the money, why dont you hire a Placement Agent, like the Big Camps do?

for a fee, generally in the neighborhood of say, a solar array, or 1000 bicycles, you can almost be certain of acquiring that "special spot" you desire.

possibly a bribe to the DPW, or giving Larry a blowjob while he smokes rock.

why leave it the hands of a bunch of drug-addled perverts when you can bypass the riff-raff and go straight to the esplanade, baby?

so, how much Cash do you have? i need to know, so we can classify you as "bougie", "up and coming", "nouveau", "DAR", or "Jew Banker".

Playa fees and all taxes are not included in this service.

PlayaPlace (tm) is not responsible for anything other than your dry cleaning, and daily shoe shine once you are placed, so dont ask.

Was there a problem with questionnaires?

:( Did something happen to forms.burningman.com? My 90% completed Camp questionnaire suddenly disappeared and I guess I have to start over from scratch.

Is there a map anywhere showing theme camp placements in '08? I've been looking all over the site and all I keep coming up with is this:

Image

Ok, for what it is, but doesn't give me any sense of how the camps are dispersed. Do they tend to clump dance camps together? I know they encourage family oriented camps to cluster around Kidsville, but does that tend to be true of other similarly themed groups as well?

yes, there is a map (it probably is not public though). The Placers used it to place the camps...

Google Earth has some camps placed (not sure how to view it though)

there is also the 2008 MOOP map, although it doesn't show camp boundries exactly or identify camps...http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... highlight=

If you REALLY want to figure this out, take the map you posted, and lookup all the theme camps (their address is listed), then place those camps one-by-one on your map.

be sure to post your results!

To answer some of your questions, yes and no. Loud night sound camps tend to be at the 10 and 2 spokes. There is a generally quieter area around hushville, alternative energy zone and kidsville. One or two years they had a red light district of more adult oriented camps. But other than that I think theme camps are pretty random. You can request to be near a certain camp, but that isn't guaranteed (although i think they do try to give you your requests).

This would make a tidy little project, but I had a go over the weekend and quickly found that the theme camp addresses aren't listed under the theme camp directory on the main site, nor in the playa calendar from last summer. Some camps, I know where they are 'cause eplayans who post often tend to mention the locations a lot. But for the majority, I seem to be coming up short. Any pointers on where I can find playa addresses for theme camps from last year?

Maybe a request thread in the 2008 Theme Camps section. I don't know how many people will see it, but it's an option.
