Motorcyling to Burning Man (from LA)

Post by TumbleWeed99 » Thu Jun 04, 2009 8:53 pm

Hello to my fellow Burners...

This year will be my fourth riding my motorcycle up from the LA area. If you have a bike and haven't yet ridden it to the Playa, I highly recommend you give it some thought. Riding up and back is a beautiful little wrapper around an awesome week! Pretty much everything I need fits comfortably on my bike, well, except for the food and libations, but that's where friends come in!

So, if you're in the LA area, have a bike and want a riding partner up, and possibly, back, hit me up! I'm leaving Sunday for the week.

Hey TumbleWeed. Welcome to the eplaya. I've always loved those KTMs. Is that stretched out a little in back or just the picture angle?

Thanks for the welcome. It's just the angle of the shot, my friend...

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hey - I'm going to be riding there as well - from Eugene, OR actually. I'm on a big cross country trip and decided because I happen to be in the right place at the right time, and always wanted to go to the Burn, I'll finally take the plunge! So excited!! Unfortunately I don't have a duel-sport or off-road bike - I'm on an old CB750 from 1981.

I have a couple questions though. I'm bringing an extra air filter. What else do I need to do or bring to keep my bike alive in the Playa? should I be worried about my tires or anything like that?

Also - its an aircooled machine with no fan so traffic can be brutal. Often motorcycles are permitted to ride around (also avoiding some of the dust in face) is that OK in entering or leaving BRC, or a big faux-pas?

If its not ok, I'll probably be looking for somewhere where I can leave the bike near the entrance. The idea of sitting in a line for hours on the bike with exhaust and dust thrown at me and risking overheating is not so appealing. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!
