suggestions on fortifying the edges of canvas?
we bought a 10x10x10 pop up for shade structure. after putting it up, we decided we'd get a grommet kit & zip-ties in order to secure it to the frame (& use duct tape to fortify the joints on the frame). but the canvas is pretty flimsy.
does anyone have any ideas as to how i can reinforce the edges along the canvas before we punch holes using our grommet kit?

get some more canvas, cut into strips twice as wide as border you are trying to create...fold over edge equally and stitch all around with sewing machine.
even a lightweight will go thru 4 layers.....make sure you go around twice..once where you folded (outer edge_about 1/2 in is good) and at the other line where the canvas folds to also maybe 1/4 from edge of canvas.
when you go to grommet, there will be 3 thicknesses, which the grommets will grab better and reinforce the whole thing. try to leave enough space between seams to allow grommets to be in center, so you dont cut stitching by mistake.
probably 2 inches is fine, hence 4" wide strips.
good luck, but even grommets wont save you when the end comes.

thanks, simon!
it took quite a bit longer than i'd wanted (a rather dreary 3 hours on sunday evening - just because it was a pain to manage such a large amount of fabric), but i'm please with the stronger edges of the canvas. we'll be punching the grommets through this week. thanks much for the advice.

Grommit has always been the brains of that outfit. If he can't save you, you're doomed.ygmir wrote:what about Wallace?Simon of the Playa wrote: good luck, but even grommets wont save you when the end comes.
