Lambert says he was inspired to audition for the Fox network singing competition after having a "psychedelic experience" at the Burning Man festival in Nevada. There, he says, he experimented with "certain funguses."

Actually its a huge boost to anyone career. I don't watch it but its hard not to avoid it in the news or when your at a relatives or friends house where its being watched.

More people know the contestants better then who was running for election, but that America for you.

Sure it gets you "seen" for your 15 minutes most of the time. I'm not a huge fan of the show (I do enjoy the first few weeks when people think they have talent) However, from what the media has portrayed, is that Simon Cowell is satan and basically makes the artists sign over their souls to him. It hasn't been real benifical to most of them.

I don't have a doubt he has talent and the fact that he's burned is pretty cool! I just think Mr. Cowell (not Mr. Playa

) is more of a hinderance on some of these peoples careers. My apologies, I'm horrific with names but, you never hear about the long haired guy that was into Skynard, or the big Black Guy (whom I thought was awesome!), or even the guy with the salt and pepper hair that was on the Ford commercials, what have they done lately? Even poor old Clay hasn't done much but adopt babies (of course that really isn't my preferred genre of music, so maybe he has done something lately). Carrie Underwear and Kelly whatsername are the only ones you remotely hear about anymore.

ok.. NOT that I'm an Idol fan or anything.. but

I believe Fantasia has done fairly well. Chris Doughtry (?) has been very successful. Jennifer Hudson won a Gramy for Dreamgirls. Yes.. Kelly Clarkson & Carrie Underwood have had ALOT of success. icky Gay Clakin is sucessful with Disney kind of music & broadway. ( that dude is just weird ). Bo Bice did at least one record that didn't really take off.. I am surprised Ruben didnt do very well.. & I would say most of the top 5 have had the opportunity to make records successful or not. so, if your a singer, I would think you would be thrilled to make the top 20 of Idol..
Oh.. & that HOT HOT Kathryn McVee (?).. had at least one hit.

But.. not that I know any of this stuff or anything.

Anyone that makes it into the final 12 has a chance to better thier carrer just from having that on thier resume.

Many of the loser go on a "club " tour, regardless of recording contract or not.

All of them get to go on the "american idol" tour after the season is done too.
I would be happy to get the $ that they get from that, even if most of them do suck balls.
And the majority of them do just that.

I only watch the auditions, and I never go out of my way for that.
I would rather sit outside listeneing to cars go by.

Rueben was the guys name! I was surprised he didn't do much. I totally forgot Jennifer Hudson came from there! And yes Clay gives me the heebies too. I really don't know why, but I just have this horrible image in my head on what his house would look like. Probably very Victorian, dark pink and frilly, with a bunch of creepy porcelain dolls hanging around.
