LIR, Thursday would work earlier in the day as the eplaya Meet n Greet is Thursday night if memory serves me right, 6pm?
i think LiR meant 10am to 1ishpm. breakfast bloody marys!! mmmmm
I believe a good/easy place to start the event would be right at the man, say at the man and 9 o'clock. then cache our way back to camp and fresh ice! what say ye?

There is a long standing tradition for a lot of booze to be buried in the playa during 4th of juplaya. This is the cache seeding process used for GC during the event. A metal detector does come in handy.

Lockwoodlady, from the man back to camp for breakfast bloody marys is a lovely idea! I also figure if you sign the banner at any point over the week you can claim the event if we get to post.

And yes I did mean....10AM to 1PM. 8)

We dug down something on the playa during the last burn, but not booze. Our plan is to dig it back up when we all come back in 2010. This year, I'll be the only one from our Norwegian camp returning, so I don't think I'll be digging it up this year. Looking forward to dig it back up tho! *YAY*

The top secret digging site:

Digging in progress:

We dug down some dried fish that we brought with us from Norway and used for decoration in our camp.

Because of the LEAVE NO TRACE rule, we wrapped the dried fish entirely in Duct Tape. Added a lot of metal inside too. Making it easier to locate the item with the use of metal detectors and making sure nothing of the fish breaks off and gets left when we dig it up.

Finally it's there, and marked on our GPS.

We named it: The Camp Herring Time Capsule!

LiR_ I was thinking we'll bring the Bloody Mary Bar set-up to the man with us. Cookie has that new tricycle this year. We'll set the bar up in the back. Drink and cache our way back to camp and more ice!!!
Barb Wire- Great pictures and fun! Wonder how that little package will smell when you open it.....hope to be there!

Hey Barb Wire! Can we make finding your Camp Herring time capsule part of our event!? Or will you be pursuing it earlier in the week, before the population explodes and someone has time to set a tent up over it??

It would be hysterical later in the week when someones tent is OVER it, then showing with the appropriate equipment to explain what you want to excavate!

Hurray! The powers that be at geocaching.com have approved our event! Check out GC1TFDB-Cache and Burn II "Welcome Home"
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... 7d88ecb827
We will be meeting at 6 O'clock and the man at 10am on Thursday morning, making our way to camp where an ample supply of Otter Pops and Bloody Mary's will be served (depending on which age group you fall into of course)

That is so very cool LiR!
Maybe we can get the Beacon to post it?!
I loved the Beacon's idea. Hope it comes to be. If not, maybe we could join forces with TheZediKnight!?

It looks like the Black Rock Beacon has also gotten thier event approved, check out
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... bfac0ff979

They are going to have a multi-cache/scavenger hunt of sorts with specially made Burning Man geocoins. Clues and coordinates will be posted everyday in the Beacon, kudos to the Zediknight! We intend to combine efforts, if anyone out there is interested please let us know. If you are in a theme camp and would be interested to maintaining a hidden box of sorts, drop me a line! I know at one time Sailman was interested in possibly placing one at kidsville.

the only thing i don't like about geocaching is the power mad people who control the site and therefore the whole sport. all the business of cache maintenance and visiting it enough times is bullshit. i've had my caches denied with weak excuses and i'm pretty certain that i'm dealing with biased, bigoted people on that stie who don't approve of the alternative lifestyles indicated in my geocaching.com profile.

I'm assuming most of this is coming from your local moderator and not Groundspeak. There have been "favoritism" issues with our local moderator too. Moderators are unpaid volunteers who sometimes get a little bit of a Napolean complex. (We had to make our case with actual Groundspeak because our moderator didn't want to approve our BM event, now there are two!) If that is the case than I would contact Groundspeak personally. A close friend has gone this route (albiet her situation was probably different) it all worked out.

Greetings, LostinReno / Fellow GeoBurners!

We met, not in Reno, but at an event in Vegas - was it last year? Didn't think I was going to make it this year, but the planets just all fell into alignment within the last few days, I'm part of an excellent camp, and look forward to participating in your event!

I assume everyone here has got the BRC maps loaded into their GPSrs? It couldn't have been easier on the new Oregon 550t - looking forward to all those geo-tagged photos... sort of an 'art project' of it's own, after the fact.

I'll be part of Expansion Mansion, on Hominid@7:30. Will definitely come by and say hi, even before the event. Thanks for the links! Any physical caches on site? I guess the 'transient' nature of BRC would preclude that.

See you on the playa,
Billy
