A little stereotypical, but a little more 'barbaric', so to speak. But hey-- whatever floats your boat :).

I;m pretty sure it's a pin/brooch. The long pin in the back is the one that goes through your clothes.
It's an interesting piece, although busy. Definately taking dark ages british isles as its inspiration. Some of the techniques are modern.

. . . two St. Andrew's crosses and some rope? I saw something like this on the internet: someone was tied to it, being whipped by a dwarf in leather underwear . . .

or, I'm guessing it's the rope bridge for the obstacle course. :)

--Wolfe

P.S. The internet. You can find *anything* on it :).

Good start on getting main structural pieces, but dont forget crossbracing and ground pegs. You need more guy ropes between cables. The cables need to be anchored to the ground , not the wooden supports. The supports need to be pushed down by overlying weight, not pulled inward and down. The first 33 pounder to jump on that will flatten that scissors down. There is strength in triangle lashings. You have weakened your posts by drilling holes in them. Look at that guide picture again. Just sayin'.

Be prepared!

Make sure he uses plenty of lube. ;)

So, the idea with the necklaces is to give something to those who complete the whole course in good order. If we give them to anyone who just runs the obstacle course only (monkeys), then you'll be making a hell of a lot of macrame, littleflower. Same for those who can only lift the stone (bulls). But if they do both of these plus defeat our champion in single boffer combat, then you only need a few gifts.

I was thinking along the lines of "surfer" puka chokers. (I know, how do you choke a puka?) They are a little more practical to wear. Like this:

Looks cool; I'd wear one :).

I offer this as a possible alternative:

The plastic eagle claws at the bottom are $3.10 for a pack of 10. Buy some leather thong and put one claw per necklace; it would keep the costs down and *hopefully* be something unique that Barbarian camp would offer.

Fake claws? Ha-ha, surely Wolfe is jesting! We are of course, real barbarians with real pain and death! Ha-ha!

(Maybe we can arrange this via Tribe.net. Littleflower, if you are still our necklace coordinator, please send your mailing addy by PM. Thanks!)

I was told these claws come from the plastic eagle who nests on the beaches of New Jersey. These ones were harvested by a plastic shaman who sells them to that online store . . .

but then, they could be pulling my leg. 8)

--Wolfe

P.S. I take it that there will be no plastic?

I believe that the old Cimmerian saying, "What you see is what you get" applies here especially.

Hell, I don't care who builds it or how it's designed, as long as it's *sturdy*.

Ygmir, I can't wait to see it when it's finished.

Yes, I was a cubscout, boyscout, webelos, explorer, and an army ranger/ parachutist. I was a civil engineering major at UC Davis. I've built bridges, ziplines, and other field stuctures.

You didn't ask for advise. My bad.

It's hard to see what we built just by that one picture. There are also other factors that you didn't mention that became very apparent when we actually applied it.

Music?

Post by Wolfe » Fri Jun 19, 2009 10:16 pm

Will we have music in-camp? Ipods? CD players? Musicians who work for free? :)

. . . and if so, what music would work to help enhance the "barbarian" atmosphere? (ie. The "Conan" soundtrack? Corvus Corax? Wagner? etc.)

I am trying to find a piper. If know any medieval tunes, Edward, maybe we could work on something.

I do have Corvus on my iPod.

A big ass drum.

A couple of war horns, which littleflower has agreed to decorate in a suitably savage manner...

Suggestions? Money? Mead?

Unfortunately, I don't know anything. Hell, I can't even play an instrument :).
Ugly Dougly wrote:Suggestions? Money? Mead?
Suggestions: Have prerecorded music on an Ipod, CDs, etc. That way, we can have the background ambiance needed. A musician would be good; does anyone on this board play an instrument-- minus hollow logs and the skulls of our enemies? :)

Money? If the ticket wasn't so expensive, I'd have some to donate :).

Mead? I'm trying to find a very sweet-tasting mead I had once, many years ago; this stuff practically tasted like soda pop. If I can find it, I'll bring some.

hey guys! i am still planning ... lol

i think we should have as many treats as possible for wandering barbarians ... bracelets/anklets as well as necklaces ... claws from plastic eagles would be excellent .... anything else you think of will work as well. i have a pretty healthy assortment of stuff to work into barbaric jewelry, but i would love anything anyone wants to send me! PM me if you want to send something. i am currently working on a necklace with little rubber babies and screws ...

i also have some atomic cherries brewing, and several recipes for slightly alcoholic popsicles.

as for music, i have bells. horns, drums, and bells ... i am sure we could get a good jam session going ... but a string instrument or 2 would be nice. who cares whether or not we can play? we'll figure it out!
