U shaped tent stakes?

Post by geospyder » Wed Jun 17, 2009 3:21 pm

U shaped tent stakes - I know I saw them posted in one of the threads but I can't find it. Anyone remember these. They were custom made U shaped stakes.

if you're talking about the U shaped rebar stakes, the only comments about them were that they didn't work well because they were hard to drive into the playa.

Maybe they were backwards?
Look up staples, either desert staples or playa staples.

OK this thing is driving me crazy. I know I saw it. There were two types of stakes/staples. One was for tents and small shade structures. The other was for large structures. They were U shaped with one end being longer than the other. Both ends were tapered and if I remember right the metal was square, not round like rebar. I think the small ones were something like ten inches. Maybe I spotted them on another forum.

you can make your own candy cane shaped rebar which is what we use and then no need for tennis balls on the tops. http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?p=331190

No problem may I ask a favor? When/if you get them and if you try them out ahead of time, can you report on how easy are they to pull out?

I would think that any guy line more than 45-60 degrees would pull these out easier than 18 inch rebar. Perhaps not though since they hav an extra end in the ground helping out. I'm curious, cause those are 10 times better than rebar sticking out all over camp regardless of what you put on the tip of them.

On another note, been on here since 2005 and.................I finally figured out how to quote correctly!!!!!

I'm graduating off the slow bus!

I'm going to pull out the tent tomorrow to make sure that the brackets on the four corners of the tent are at least 3/8 wide. I'll be using them to stake down the four corners of the tent - straight in. I'll use two more for the guy lines for the rain flap. If the tent brackets are big enough I'll order them tomorrow. Next time I plan to camp is August 13-16. Hopefully they will be here by them so I can test them out.

According to the site those ten inch staples are just to hold down tents and carports. They have fifteen inch staples as well, for larger installations, but they won't ship them to you, because they don't know how much to charge for shipping. If you got someone in Seattle maybe they could pick some up and ship them to you though. I'm curious on how they work as well.
