Headless Point Studio in San Francisco burned down a couple of hours
ago. Lola's Restaurant was also destroyed. Everyone is ok. The fire
department was unable to put out the huge fire, which was fueled by
lacquer in the paint booth and bottled gasses from the welding
operation. Current residents were Dan Das Mann, Michelle Burke, Aaron
"Slim", Steve23, Toby, and Phil Darnell. Serge owned the Plasman
business that Dan Das Mann founded. Headless Point created many fine
art pieces for Burning Man including One Tree -1998, Faces of Man
-2000, Lawn Sculpture -2003.
The rocking horse head and the studio under it are now gone.

Headless Point update
As many of you already know, yesterday Headless Point studios suffered a major fire. Several rooms are totally gutted, and the entire structure is likely no longer habitable (at least not without major demolition and restoration).
Headless has been a hub for our community for nearly a decade, and during that time played home to a growing family of incredible artists and burners, people who have affected nearly all of us, directly or indirectly, with their work, their lives or both.
As a result of the fire, all of the current residents have been left homeless, including Tobias Barton, Michelle Burke, Dan Das Mann (The One Tree, The Three Faces of The Man, The last Stand), Phil Darnowsky, Steve23 (Rubber Ducky) and me - Aaron Muszalski (Anno Domino 2000, Amazing Larry's Cube Club, and the Rubber Ducky). Also Serge Durieux has lost almost the entirety of Plasmann studios, the metal arts workshop that employed many of the residents in the house as well as numerous other local artists.
Although it is too early to say what our plans are for the future, rest assured that the nexus of creativity and energy that was Headless Point will survive, even if Headless itself does not.
For the time being, we ask for everyone's thoughts and support in the wake of this tragedy. We also would like to re-extend the invitation to friday night's beach burn at Headless (although it may seem somewhat redundant at this point).
I'll try and post more news here as I can, but if you want to stay up-to-date, please consider joining the Headless Point tribe on tribe.net :

Oh man, a true SF art institution gone. I can hardly believe it. That's where I learned how to weld, helping with "The Last Stand" installation in 2002.
The last report is that only 2 folks lost all of their belongings, and fortunately the owner of the shop equipment was insured.
No doubt there will be a benefit coming up sometime soon. Stay tuned.
