New to all that
Greetings
This will be, if all turns well, my first year. not clear about the arirval and setting up issue, can someone help lease; How does the "camp site" issue works. are they allocated at the gate, is there a pre-allocation? any preferred areas? what is the size of camp site?
Thanks in advance
DG

DG, hold on to your ass cheecks and enjoy the wildest ride ever... Welcome.
In very simple terms without alot of useless words.
Camping spots are 1st COME 1st SERVE..
Whats that mean you might ask? Just that simple. As the week goes on the city fills up from mainly the inside out. So go to the 1st timers guide and read it 4 times.. No joking. The main thing is only ICE is sold on site. You must bring everything with you to live and sleep. No 7-11 stores.
Now be a good DG and go start reading the 1st timers guide

Check out some of the aerial images of Burning Man. I think once you get a better perspective on the size of the place, you will see your anxiety about finding a "site" is unncecessary. It's huge, and you find open spaces easily, certainly early in the week this is the case. If streetside is filled in, look behind the first layer of tents within the blocks. Last year it was huge and out on the edges you could almost stake out a basketball court without trouble. You receive a map at the greeters station that has pre-allocated areas shaded in, so you know where not to go. The place is gigantic. Just don't take the advice a greeter gave me my virgin year, "lots of open space around the man." I cannot find the high res. photo of last year that you could zoom down to see individual tents and cars. I'm pretty sure there is a link to it on this forum. Here's another.
