Look forward to seeing you and Silver Orange too. Yeah to take my mind off stuff and meet new friends. Collecting hugs when I get there.

I have gifts for you! from Rhino! We've been working on a project online so I'm bringing it to LoF. Will explain once I get there.

I think I'm arriving on Thursday. We'll find each other somehow.

I'm the medical team lead, Doxie will know where I'm at.

Look for "Paint my Sails" That'll be mine, I'll expect a wee bit of artistry ;)

A gift from Rhino?!? Why bless his "pulling a truck drive from a flaming truck fire" heart :D

Get excited folks! The worker bees were out in force this weekend preparing the site for your enjoyment. Effigies being built, mutant vehicles showing up, domes sprouting out of nowhere, a cob built pizza oven created... It's gonna be fun! Only 4 days til the gates open. If you think you could spare a little of your time, please consider volunteering for a shift or two. http://www.lakesoffire.org/volunteer-ipate/

Getting excited now. Hope to arrive on Thursday. Ticket came in the mail on Friday so I'm good to go.

Hey, Sail Man thanks for directions to find you. I expect I'll run into you fairly easily. Taymar is arranging who we're camping with so I'm not sure of the details 'cause he's been busy and out of communication range.

Once I get set up, I'll be looking for the Paint my Sail project. I'll try to think of something catchy.

What can I say except that we fucking rocked our first regional. For all of you that were there, thank you for helping us make this happen. For everyone else, you missed one hell of a great event. It will definitely be worth your while to check out next years event. I hear it'll be better.

Wow, did we ever rock!

So good to meet SilverOrange and SailMan in person! Both of these gentlemen are top notch.

Lots of people were surprised to get a Black Rock Beacon at the first Great Lakes regional. It was a pleasure to pull this off.

What a fantastic burn with excellent fire conclave! Every thing about this regional was fun. Just what I needed.

Downtown Dave cooks a mean pizza in the clay ovens too. What a tasty treat when you don't feel much like cooking.

Well, unfortunately, we came and left the same day... :( (Between the heat and humidity, not being able to find a camp site with shade which was big enough for our three tents and supplies, and concerns about health, we decided to head back to Wisconsin.) Maybe next year the weather will be better...

Ah, BAS, I'm sorry to hear about your experience. There seemed to be lots of shade but depending on when you arrived it may have been difficult to find shade without some assistance. How unfortunate! Possibly this could be a concern for the team leads to take up for next year - having the greeters and parking staff work together to make sure you find a spot successfully.

I can understand that health concerns can be a serious problem with heavy humidity. If you arrived on Friday, it might have been pretty discouraging - the air was heavy with moisture. In the shade, it was quite possible to find relief at Willow Ranch.

Hopefully, you'll consider coming next year.

Sorry to hear this BAS. I was looking forward to meeting you. It was hot though. We could have made room for you to camp with us. We had shade structures set up, and the ability to leave and come back meant a lot of trips to the lake for swimming. I hope you'll give it another shot next year.

I thought LOF was excellent!!

The gate guys were cool and super friendly!
The greeters were awesome and sexy!
DPW, Parkers, Rangers and Organizers really got it done!
Everyone was BEAUIFUL!

A lot of people put tons of work into their camps and art projects. There was a lot of different sound and events. The ground was humming. LOL!
I had a blast reading at the poetry slam (it's great to see spoken word on the frontline)!

Spotter and all of the people who worked on the effigy did an amzaing job. During the burn heat filled the sails and actually made them billow =) Thanks, all of you!

And special thanks to everyone who stopped at Videogasm and participated in our daytime Color & Light Body Painting Project! You folks rocked! I hope you had a good time watching the nightly shows as well. Ed, Andy and others put a ton of hard work into making it happen.

There was so much that went right for me at LOF. Hehe, the potato Vodka was good too =)

Best,

Troy aka Surya Solra

We got there on Thursday and hour or two after the gate opened, and did get a ride around the area by Doxie. Unfortunately, we were too busy hanging onto the golf cart to really pay close enough attention to which areas were and were not reserved. (Maybe next year use the trick we use at the U.W.-- we place (and tape) pre-printed paper bags over the parking meters when we make parking on Lake Street off limits. Bags could already be marked for reserved camping spaces, and then placed over the signs and taped so that they don't get knocked off. All they would really need is the word "Reserved", or even an "R" printed on them with marker.)

Anyway, we saw something like three places we liked which we thought were in the non-reserved area, got everything unloaded from the mini-van, and got well into setting things up when we found out we were in Midwest Mayhem's zone. Unfortunately, by then the only place in that area which was left which we could be certain wasn't in a reserved area which didn't have someone setting up in it was too small. Plus, I was worried that I might be getting a dehydration headache, the friend of mine whose minivan we were using wasn't looking too good, and my brother-- well, with him, who knows?! :?

Unfortunately, it was about an hour or so on the drive back when it occurred to us we might have been able to bribe our way into Midwest Mayhem's camp (since when my friend talked to them they seemed friendly enough). After all, we had bratwurst and other meat products (kind of an odd story behind the "other meat products," since I am the one who procured them and am still not entirely certain what they are), two propane stoves, and a charcoal grill. And vodka.

There is a good possibility we may try again next year. (I don't know if it would be possible to schedule LoF to improves the odds of good weather or not.)

I have also got a transfer at the U.W. to Physical Plant, which does not have Blackout Dates, so, depending upon other factors (such as money, and how badly the mandatory 8 days off without pay, goes) I might be able to make it to Burning Man again.

Finally, I think I am going to try to get myself in better physical shape for next year. (I don't really see how it could hurt..., well, I suppose I could always injure my other ankle...! I think I will put that on my list of things to avoid!)

Now, if only I could figure out where to get the money for a school bus to customize, things would really be going well for next year!

BAS, that really sucks. Doxie was really kicking ass out there, but the theme camp areas were only marked out on the ground with white marking paint, that if you weren't looking for, was easy to miss. We've already talked about signs for next year. I was the guy in the cowboy hat running the parking on Thursday afternoon. I'll be out there doing it all again next year, and if you show up I'd be more than happy to give you a hand finding a place. At two o clock on Thursday we should have been able to find you a space. To be honest though, I wouldn't try for a spot in the woods. IMHO it's better to be out in the open with shade that you brought. The woods just blocks any breeze that there might be. As far as the weather goes, it's just always hard to tell. It dropped to seventy the day after the event ended. The one thing I can predict is it will be humid. Gotta love the great lakes area.

SilverOrange! Pleasure to meet you sir! Thanks for the lighter

Your camp gave me inspiration for a medical camp next year.

We put on one kick ass show, hats off to all the other leads and volly's who made it happen :!:

I'm still glowin from LoF. Everyone there from participants to Production Teams to Organizers just ROCKED IT. I can't thank my team enough (especially Spotter and the Willow Ranch crew). The SS Bacon turned out exactly how I designed it and then some. I can't describe the feeling of when a stranger runs up to me, asks if I'm Poochie then gives me a great big hug saying "thank you" five times over. King of the world is close.

It was great meeting all of you out there. And Sailman, thanks for doing a little Ranger detail on the Cum Back Inn Saturday night. My fuse was getting a little short. Silver Orange, you have, by far, the BEST shot of the burn. It looks like Bealzibub's ship is rolling into port. Friggin awesome.

I'm expecting a sellout next year. Yet, the Effigy Team is still trying to figure out how we're gonna top the SS Bacon. Til then...

BACON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Poochie. Thanks for the complement. I graduated from the "Automatic Weapon School of Photography". Just hold down the trigger and hope that you hit something! I'm going to have some LOF posters with that image made to give to a couple of people that put a lot of work into the event, and you, for sure, deserve to be on that list. I'll let you know when they get done. Can't wait to see what you dream up for next year.

Ditto on both my good men.

Yeah, those guys from Poland were getting kinda squirrelly, but I do admit, hearing another accent made it even more burnier for myself.

Effigy team did such a kick ass job on the Bacon, I was flabbergasted to see it for the first time, especially considering it was our first regional. I mean, the factory was decent, but this....this really fucking notched the bar up quite a bit. It will be hard to top it, but I have faith my brothers 8)

I dont think we'll have any problems reaching the cap next year. I'm already planning. Of course there's this other Burn that I gotta get out of my way so I can really concentrate

BTW, Rat Bastard-Poochie????? That one sure slipped by me, thanks SO

As everyone is getting ramped up for that camping trip to the desert, the Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids Area Burning Man group would like to invite you out for a weekend of instruction and enjoyment. Planet Steve (robotland to you eplayans) has graciously offered up his home, property, and pool for a get together focused on preparations for Burning Man. There will be demonstrations on building domes, monkey huts, EL wire, and more. If any of you would like a little help or instruction, have a skill that you think others could benefit from, or would just like to come out and spend a weekend with like minded individuals, please join us. The location is just a few short miles north of Kalamazoo. The dates are Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2. There is ample room on the property for camping out and a Bells beer and bacon brunch will be served Sunday morning. (Did I mention there's a pool) If you are interested please pm me for location details. Hope to see you there!
