GARBAGE and INDIAN TACOS.......
OK, since a few of you have checked out my other post, I thought I'd do another one.....
sooooo, years ago, I would put up posts prior to the event, and I figure I will keep it up. Although everyone has gotten much better about this as the years have gone by...But for those of you still new to the scene, I'd just like to take a moment and let you know my sentiments on YOUR Garbage.......
Please, Please....DO NOT DROP YOUR GARBAGE OFF AT THE FIRST GARBAGE CAN YOU SEE on the Rez. Now that a few of the folks out here have figured out a way to make another buck off of you kind folks, you have noticed that there are "Garbage Stands", where tribal members are actually making money taking your garbage. For a nominal fee they you can drop off your garbage off with an 'independant garbage broker' (my fancy term) or over at the I-80 Smokeshop.
This year our crazy tribe entered into an agreement where we now have a 'waste transfer station' run by a non tribal company called TrashPros. Chances are they will be setting up some sort of Garbage drop off for cash. PLEASE.....Do NOT Patronize this company, as they are ripping off the tribe, and do not deserve to earn any of your money.
**
Also if you are heading west on I-80, there is the Lockwood Transfer Station, and garbage can be dropped off there as well.....
and AS ALWAYS......
SUPPORT OUR LOCAL INDIAN TACO STANDS......
Thanks for taking the time to read my post!.........
My daughter Cassidy will be going out to BRC, it'll be her 3rd time out there....she'd love to visit your camp and meet any and all of you!
WITH MUCH THANKS!!.....Heidi aka....Pyramid Lake Woman

Pyramid Lake Woman;
Thanks for the background on this company that is ripping off the band.
Do you mind if I do a little interview with you by email? I'd like to do an article on some of your hints and tips about how we can tread more lightly and more respectfully around the tribe lands.
I write for the Black Rock Beacon newspaper and we always do an edition of the paper that comes out Sunday morning with some hints for the drive home. We try to add a bit of humour but are serious too.
Send me a private message, if you would like to do this.
Thanks
Deb

correction
Now I wouldn't necessarily say that they were ripping the tribe off, as the Tribal Council that entered into the contract thought that they were doing the right thing.....
Oh I could go on and on......as you can tell I'm very anti TrashPro's.....
But I've gone to the public meetings, and I've voiced my anger about this non native company leaving it's negative mark on our land. But our Environmental Director is young, and seems to think that this is what's best.
I've watched this company operate on severely windy days (you know how harsh the wind can be) and have seen the garbage flying out onto the sagebrush, littering the land and nearby highway. The next day, they just have one of their workers (non-native) out picking up the wind blown debris. I watch the garbage trucks go back and forth through our roads all day long, monday thru friday. I've been behind one of the trucks as it did 45 mph going across the bridge (25 mph zone)....
and so forth and so on..........................................................

Black Rock Beacon newspaper
you call that indian taco wrapper a PAPER?
now piss clear, that was something worth actually saving, folding up neatly, and stashing away in the bottom of the suitcase.
the beacon was always 1-ply anyway, especially after the funding dried up.
sorry, deb, nothing personal, but that's the new york post of playa rags.

yes Burn....I am contradicting myself!, huh!......Let me rephrase that.......I feel that they are taking advantage of the tribe, yet our Council approved their contract, so how could they be taking advantage of us....
Their whole garbage outfit is fucked up.............bottom line.
oh the woes........

..We got up there, we found all the garbage in there, and we decided it'd be a friendly gesture for us to take the garbage down to the city dump.
So we took the half a ton of garbage, put it in the back of a red VW microbus, took shovels and rakes and implements of destruction and headed on toward the city dump.
Well, we got there and there was a big sign and a chain across across the dump saying, "Closed on [LABOR DAY]."
And we had never heard of a dump closed on [LABOR DAY] before, and with tears in our eyes we drove off into the sunset looking for another place to put the garbage.
We didn't find one.
Until we came to a side road, and off the side of the side road there was another fifteen foot cliff and at the bottom of the cliff there was another pile of garbage.
We decided that one big pile is better than two little piles, and rather than bring that one up we decided to throw our's down.
That's what we did.
Don't link to anything here!

LABOR DAY?? kids It was on Thanksgiving.
Now it all started two Thanksgivings ago, was on - two years ago on
Thanksgiving, when my friend and I went up to visit Alice at the
restaurant, but Alice doesn't live in the restaurant, she lives in the
church nearby the restaurant, in the bell-tower, with her husband Ray and
Fasha the dog. And livin' in the bell tower like that, they got a lot of
room downstairs where the pews used to be in. Havin' all that room,
seein' as how they took out all the pews, they decided that they didn't
have to take out their garbage for a long time.
Oh, and to drift even further, I used to live in Silver Springs and spend some time in the Wadsworth bar.. can't remember the name of the place. and we saw Jimmy Hendrex's nephew perform in Fernley. (this was over 10 years ago)

I'm hurt. Writing for the Beacon is my gift to the community. And lots of people love it.
Besides we got the best of PISS Clear - Adrian is writing with us now. So you better check out the Beacon this year.
If'n you want to see something different, come on over and help out. Burning Man is a DO-ocracy. If you want something done, then pitch in and quit your damn whining.

well deb, good to know that adrian is coming over to help that sorry entity, it needs a vicious tranny touch.
i can critique if i want to, because thats how things adapt and change. Dont feel hurt, you've been simonized, that's all, it'll wash off.
say Hi to john Lam, a photographer who works for the beacon, has for the past few years, and who i tell every year, that the beacon "bites".
does'nt mean i dont still love him, and i've got far to much to do to come over and put that thing on-line, where all newspapers will be within 2 years anyway, so you'll have to do-docracy some other sucker.
i'm sure your stuff is great deb, and with the edition of Miss Snark herself to the staff, perhaps it will make it a worthwhile read, like the Spock Mountain Newsletter always is.
i guess the proof will be in the pudding, so i will let you know, because i used to really enjoy my morning constitutional with Piss Clear and a Cigarette, we'll see how the beacon holds up to my morning scrutiny....if it fails, it becomes very scratchy one ply.
did they re-instate the money? is it funded? or is the bmorg unsupportive of a dying venue, a soon to be fossil, like the typewriter itself.
perhaps the original poster could use some assistance too, her headlines are a little confusing....I like Indian tacos, and am quite sure they are not made from garbage, but you wouldn't know from this topic title, now would you.
