Shading a large are between 2 or 3 26' RV's

Post by camp-photon » Mon Jun 29, 2009 9:10 am

The main structures of our planned camp will be two rental RV's. (Please don't be a hater, I'll be doing my 6th BM in a tent.)

One of the RV's may leave on Friday. We will want to keep the camp shade up and running.

My first thought was a large span of Aluminet supported by the RV's. My fellow campers think it will sag like a big hammock in the middle an become a bathtub shape.

The other thought was two carports like this one:

My main concern about these is that they will become a kite in a windstorm.

Any shared experience would be appreciated.

Those carports will be fine and not become sails if you tie them down well. Tying down shade is an art form and you will see a lot of techniques that work and are playa wind tested. Be sure that whatever carports you get has pole sections that connect with a locking device such as pins or the spring things that snap into a corresponding hole.

carports work great...if they don't have connectors/nipples for the legs, use bungees from the bottom roof line to the 'feet'; this will keep the legs from separating in high winds...make sure you really tie the whole thing down WELL- leave space between the vehicles and the carports so they don't rub each other during windstorms...

Consider using the rv's as an anchor point (frame/wheels) to attach the carports together for additional protection. I know u mentioned that one rv will leave friday so this would only be an extra addition to an already well thought out securing plan :D
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

something doesn't sit right there, for me.........
do you mean there are actually windstorms?
or, are they more "freakish" than normal ones?
Or, can only Freaks participate?

I think it's pretty freaky when windstorms have dust devils in them.

This doesn't usually happen where I live.

Hold on.... yeah it does.

Nevermind.

Dick--What's with that film in your sig line? Do you know that idiot, or did you just harvest that from the net. I love Badger's current dancing puppets, but I got to say that's way up there in style points for those looping (loopy?) shorts.

Thanks Fishy.

I harvested that one.

I found it to be in perfect timing for the Fourth O'July.

I will change back to my usual perversions afterwards.
