Early Entry

Hey there.

I just got approval from the DMV to bring my Mutant Vehicle to the Playa. Woo hoo.

I'm looking to get started setting it up on Saturday, a couple days before the gates open on Monday, so I can be registered and rolling to meet and greet.

I'm looking for one or perhaps two early entry passes to help make this happen. I'd be more than happy to help set up your theme camp or art project, as would my friend who's super handy and motivated. We've got tickets, of course. Just need early entry.

It's this very sort of bartering and gaming of the system to get in early that the event has had to put their pretty draconian requirements into place.

If you can't get in early by your own merit then please don't contribute to further fucking things up by scamming the system.

I have two early entry passes that I didn't use last year. I'd be wiling to sell or trade.

Seems like you can find a post on this subject every year. Just curious, how many early passes did you request in relation to how many you got? How do you even have an early entry pass already? I thought they acknowledge who gets the passes in August? I've got two domes, scaffolding towers, lighting systems, three shade tents and run all the hardware for our theme camp. I certainly hope bmorg is able to accommodate my measly four person request?

Mutant Vehicle artists can't apply for early entry.

I would like to be able to get on the playa a couple days early to work my ass off.

...so you want in early to setup your mutant vehicle, but are also willing to work your ass off for someone you don't camp with and do not have a theme camp yourself...(where are you going to setup your tent?)

This is my first years doing a large scale theme camp, and I'm trying to figure out how many people I'm able to get in early to help me set up.
I requested 4 early entry passes to set up our structures (scaffolding, 2 domes, 3 shade structures for tents and countless guy wires to hold everything to the ground). Our test run took us three days to set it all up, but we had 7 people! I'm assuming now that it's understood how to put everything together it can be done by 4 in two days, but that's going to be busting our ass busy.
Who has experience with theme camps? How many passes do you get for a camp of 50 people or so? When do they announce early entry for theme camps?

The LLC has to pay the BLM per person per night for early entries. So there is a financial consideration on one side to keep early entries low. On the other side, there is the desire to have city infrastructure up and running when the gates are opened. So they have to thread the needle there. What they don't want is a bunch of people up there partying instead of working. We may not agree with how they regulate early entries, but it isn't clear to me that there is a perfectly fair way.
Don't stress too much if you aren't really up and running on Monday at 12:01 am. Wednesday is a good day to shoot for.

usually one can get up to 10 passes, assuming you can justify the need.

4 should not be an issue.

be sure to hydrate and rest so you don't end up in the med tent on Sunday...

There has to be a need for early entry. Working at Bm is one, a large theme camp is another. Some artcars got early passes in the past and some still do.

Ask BMORG for a pass first. These type of rewuests rarely get filled fromother burners. But good luck

Be careful; people work a lot less efficiently on the playa than they do in real life. This is a combination of heat, thin air, interruptions by dust storms, and workers distracted by shiny things.

I've run a large camp a couple of times. A good rule of thumb seems to be early arrival (weekend) for 10-20% of the camp. For a large camp, two to four percent should show up even earlier than that.
