This says 356 feet aswell, surely it would have evaporated if it is only a couple of feet deep

I can see very wellygmir wrote:I know I've seen a man in a boat out there............
There's a boat on the reef with a broken back
And I can see it very well
There's a joke and I know it very well
It's one of those that I told you long ago
Take my word I'm a madman don't you know
Once a fool had a good part in the play
If it's so would I still be here today
It's quite peculiar in a funny sort of way
They think it's very funny everything I say
Get a load of him, he's so insane
You better get your coat dear
It looks like rain
chorus
We'll come again next Thursday afternoon
The In-laws hope they'll see you very soon
But is it in your conscience that you're after
Another glimpse of the madman across the water
I can see very well
There's a boat on the reef with a broken back
And I can see it very well
There's a joke and I know it very well
It's one of those that I told you long ago
Take my word I'm a madman don't you know
The ground's a long way down but I need more
Is the nightmare black
Or are the windows painted
Will they come again next week
Can my mind really take it

Yeah, except that the Truckee river flows into it, and there is no outlet from here, except for evaporation and seepage.velocirafter wrote:This says 356 feet aswell, surely it would have evaporated if it is only a couple of feet deep
Sure it is deep in spots, but 80% of it is only a couple of feet deep.
The 356 foot depth is only in that one spot, the rest is nowhere near that deep.
We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.
found a page with a depth map for fishing
its in the middle of the page (depth indicators)

Nope, same lake, it's only 25-ish miles from where I live.pandasex wrote:

you can't actually walk all the way across it, I was just jerkin' chains, but you can walk about 100 yards out into it before the depth becomes deeper than 2 1/2 feet from the west side.

Pyramid Lake question
Panda....Unfortunately there isn't any place that rents kayaks or life jackets for that matter. Years ago, when the Marina was run by the tribe, they rented boats and jet skis, but that was years ago.
And our lake is deep, very deep. yes, there are places where you end up walking out a bit before you hit a drop off. But most places around the lake, you only take a few steps and it's a good drop/ledge.
My favorite beach is Wino Beach, it has a great sandy slope and is great if you have kids. But the closest beach from the 447 junction (Nixon Store) would be Blockhouse. There are signs that have the beach names.
You do need a permit, and that can be purchased at either the Nixon Store, the Ranger Station in Sutcliffe, and I do believe Crosby Lodge out in Saha (Sutcliffe) also sells them. Oh, also our Tribal Admin offices sells them.
as always....support your local taco stand.

it's my understanding there was commercial carp fishing there, and, that it was the terminus of a boat ride from Elko, then, portage to Carson sink, about a mile, and a boat ride to the foot of the sierras.......across Nevada in a boat......dang.......Thecatman wrote:The Winnemucca Dry lake about 40 miles south of Gerlach was over 80ft deep in its hey day
I've seen it up to the railroad tracks just west of town.........

There are underground tunnels from Pyramid Lake to Tahoe to SF Bay. People have drowned at Tahoe and their body ended up in The Bay and people have drowned at Tahoe and ended up in Pyramid Lake. It's caused from very very very old volcanic flumes.
Part of Lake Tahoe is bottomless and part of Pyramid Lake is very very deep, maybe bottomless as well per se.
