To all the people who think that Paul Addis is a hero...

Please let me know which art piece is yours and I'll gladly burn it, damage it, piss on it, drive over it or find some way to ruin it for you and everyone you'd ever want to enjoy it.

And if I caught someone setting it on fire, I wouldn't bother calling the authorities or pressing charges. I would sit back and watch while all the people who helped me build it take care of the "situation". It is people like Addis that created the need for curbing.

Lots of people work very hard to build the man. Just like any other burnable art (Waffle, Oil rig, Temples, etc.). Addis was not slapping Larry Harvey in the face. He was disrespecting all his fellow burners that built and paid for that thing. There are many other ways for him to protest against the BMorg. Like not buying a ticket. Or drapping a "Screw all you yuppie hippies" over the Man. His act did absolutely nothing to change the event to be the way he wanted it to be.

If people are so upset with BM becoming something they don't want, then create change. Or better yet, start yer own event. What's Addis going to do next? Burn down Center Camp?

After being involved with a few large effigies now I can see how much of a fool Addis and his followers are. It takes more then a half dozen drunken idiots to produce an effigy burn. And buying a ticket to the event surely doesn't give anyone the right to destroy other's art.

Does anyone think that Addis and his buddies could control this?

Maybe he's changed after being Bubba's bitch for a while. I'm sure he at least learned some respect in jail if nothing else. A little guy like him... Fish.

Addis is no hero - he is obviously a screwball. Some peoples point here is in the fact that the Man as a piece of art was going to be burned 96 hours later than when Addis lit er up. I am not condoning what occured but imho it is on another level than burning a permanent art fixture. Thats why there are various degrees of crimes.

Yeah, Addis is a nut, not a hero. However, what I think he really wanted was for people to talk about him, even if it what they will do to him if they get their hands on him. Thus, by posting about how bad a person he is and what you hope happened/will happen to him, you are actually supporting him. Not that the folks who want to beat him up think that far in advance...

I know you're playing Devil's advocate, MDM, but some people are ill-informed. As you know, when they light the Man on Saturday, there's a strict perimeter cordoning off people from getting too close. When Addis committed his arson, remember, the Man was NOT cordoned off and was a working, peopled green info pavilion. The difference, of course, was Addis put people in harm's way who otherwise WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THERE 96 hours later.

That is the lamest excuse yet. Let's not forget that the idiot made a statement that some church wasn't going to be there anymore and then proceded to try to blow it up with some firecrackers.

The fucked up thing is most of BM DPW (that I saw) had laminates with his picture on it last year. DPW hero I guess. But then again, it IS BM DPW. What was I thinking?

He tried to burn down Grace Cathedrial in SF, which would have been a good trick for your average pyro like him, because it is huge and mostly stone. He was making no "statement" then, he was making no "statement" at the burn, he's a criminal. Someone vould very easily have DIED......
