BUSY BUSY DAY!!! I met Oneeyedick today and a shitload of other burners that I cannot remember! I remember meeting them...just don't remember names!!! Someday YOU WILL BE OLD LIKE ME !!! Anyway it was GREAT to see so many people headed out to the Playa! I sat up at the gas station and sold gas and drank beer all day!
I met a bunch of really cool people! I saw some really weird people! And...i got a really good buzzzzzz~
It was a good day! Tomorrow I think I wil do the same!

We stopped at the store around 11:00 this morning on our way back from Tacoma. Picked up a bag of cat food for the cats at work. Had to wait in line for about 6-8 minutes. Was glad to see that.

This is such a nice story to be following. I'm really glad things have all worked out and the store is not only back up and running, but thriving.

I must admit I have never stopped there, but I am definitely going to this year.

Well...it's midnight! The 4th is over, we went out to the Playa (our first time) and we all thought it was BEAUTIFUL!!! I am glad we went there at dusk, if the sun had been high and the temps through the roof...I may have had a different first impression!
We went to a fireworks extravaganza put on by a group of the guys I work with and a retiree. They did a great job of making it a "safe and sane" 4th!
When it was over and my son was done helping pick up the spent casings, we headed across the Playa...not the best idea we could have come up with! Someone mentioned an orange strobe light, that was where we could find the real party! The 4th of Juplaya! Well, we drove across the playa and ended up at a camp that had a strobe light flashing but there weren't alot of "wild n crazies" around so we figured we got the "wrong" 4th of Juplaya party site. We looked around and several miles further across the Playa there were at least two or three other sites with strobes flashing!
We said fuckit and turned around, drove a half a mile, parked and set off our rockets and bombs!
I was really looking forward to partying!

Thas allright! Next time!
I will be at the station again tomorrow selling gas to the homeward bound people! Hope to meet some more people!

Sunday was a good day~ Met a bunch more people~ Sold all the gas! Now we are waiting to get another truck load! I put the restrooms back in useable condition! I was told they had been trashed for about 2 1/2 years! DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S TRUE...BUT THEY SURE LOOKED LIKE IT! (Sorry Caps) lol Whatever the case...the front restroom is back in service and the other one will be tomorrow after I get home from work!

I was told the Port-a-potties will be here around Aug 7th.

Not sure if this was requested but DIESEL fuel with a long hose to reach out to our thirsty rides. The Nautilus holds 125 gallons and we need about 100 at exodus. Thank you btw your store rocks!!

We are on playa now - driknking at bevs in the evening, and going for the land speed record in the day!! One of those strobes are ours!! drop by snytime. (530 is the goal for this week, 800 is the goal next july 4.

The playa is hot dusty and beautiful!
The dust storms were minor.

I stopped in on the 3rd - and felt REALLY dumb when I realized I had just walked in to a place and asked if anyone knew "Mykidsdaddy".

Sadly, you weren't there but we passed along our thanks for opening and running the store.

The weekend prior to opening, you will have an ENORMOUS need for ice as the ice sales on playa don't begin until Monday.

LMAOIn the REAL world I am known as Andy! I am really glad you were able to stop in! I work at the Gypsum plant here so I'm not usually in the store in the day time. But...on the 3rd I was in the gas station pretty much all day...sorry we didn't connect.

I hear you on the ice! We ran out twice this weekend!
I have a different outlook on inventory control...BUY MORE than you think you will need! If you have left overs they will sell next weekend! We had some people sitting here for a VERY long time, patiently waiting for ice to arrive!
I am sorry they had to be told we were out and even more sorry they had to wait! The Boy Scout in me was screaming "We should have been PREPARED!!! Someone...could have gone into Reno on THURSDAY and got ICE!!!

So over the years there has been all kinds of stories about this place. From faulty tires to reselling peoples gas caps back to them. Even rumors of the employees throwing tacks in the roads just to sell more tires. The above state average prices for their gas and the stupid expensive price of the products in the store has not given this place the best of reputations. Especially amongst part of the burner community. Don't get me wrong I have met a lot of really cool locals in Empire and I personally have never had any bad experiences at the store, though I have friends who have.

I remember a thread sometime last year where dj_john69 said "FYI...after this burn, the current tenants are losing the store. I believe the actual owner will take over from here on out." And then I read this story a while back on the Nevada News Wire. The store has been reopened for a while, but I guess the tanks are not.

To my understanding there is supposed to be new products and equipment in there and shit. What I'm wondering is has anyone been there and seen it? Is it much different? Are the gas tanks open at all? Have the prices gotten better compared to the previous management? The owner seems like a nice enough man. I'm just curious if the place is any better or worse.

Yes, the stolen gas caps have been going on for many years. So, if you are traveling through there and need gas, we need to set them up. If you are driving with another person stop before you get gas and the two can check to visually confirm you have a gas cap. Then stop there and get gas. If they play that trick with you, call the cops on them and file charges. those suckers need to be fuck with in the county jail for a few days.

There is another thread regarding this store, with all their trials and tribulations of the past year. It would appear that someone must have a personal ax to grind and don't care who they hurt. For those of you that are open minded, I would suggest that you stop and give the new people a chance. Don't get discouraged if they get a bit snarky, this is a small town and not used to the hoards of people that show up 2% of the year. For those of you that are not so open minded, I have been searching through all the rules and guidelines, and nowhere can I find that you are required to stop, so don't. If you go in with a bad attitude, it will just make matters worse for the new people, and I see no reason they deserve to pay for the sins of their predecessors.

Just wanted to put my two cents in from a real experience. I was out there for the 4th of Juplaya. I went into Empire with Colonel Ingus and his son to get ice and we were the ones sitting there waiting for the ice truck actually!

The prices in the store are reasonable and fair. I didn't see any price that I wouldn't pay for an item, even picked up more sunscreen which is often an item that would be overpriced in a small store.

There was a good selection of everything - well, okay there weren't any brat sausages but that's okay. And my brand of smokes wasn't there but there was another brand that would work.

The shelves were well stocked. And the food in the deli was great. We had some real good sandwiches while waiting for the ice truck and sat to watch the ball game on the big screen TV in the corner.

Also all the folks working there were real nice people. It's Don's son and son-in-law, their wives and all their kids that are helping keep the store going.

And in the other thread, the store owners are asking us what we want them to stock in the store. I think that's bending over backwards to make sure they can have what we need going into the burn and on our way out.

I say that we should all stop in just to support the local businesses.

Absolut Jeenyus, thanks for posting Caleb's video interview with the new owner. I talked to Don, who's now 82, when I was there, turns out he was born and raised in Toronto! Then at 18 moved out west to Vancouver and then down to the States. He had dual-citizenship 'cause his father was American.

I did do a search for like an hour. Thats how I found the link to the other thread in my original post.

I also scoured google looking for shit too. Thats why I decided to ask here. Besides my question wasn't really if it was reopened. I know its reopened. It was to see if people noticed much of a difference from what it was a year ago and what it is now. Price differences, the in store equipment, etc...
