Bad news for me.

Post by Detox the Clown » Mon Jul 06, 2009 8:58 am

It looks as though I won't make it to BRC this year. Just found out last week that my future ex-wife has cleaned out the bank accounts and accumulated a moutain of debt that will take me YEARS to pay off.

I love you, Playa People--and I'll see you again when I can.

About 20 years ago when I was in New Orleans the crooks had the
complete audacity to enter the airport midday and pick up the Amex
ATM with a hand cart.

This was in front of hundreds of people checking in at nearby airline
ticket counters.

They wheeled it to a truck outside & got away scott-free!!
LOL

Hah. This is bullshit. That is not a valid excuse not to go. If anything its more of a reason to go.

There are very few reasons not to go.

To see the burn from a new position in life, one would think, is an appealing option.

It is only because we live in a country that values civility that we are able to have things like street side ATMs. It is too bad when some people take advantage of that.

We have street side atms here.
It is advisable to carry a rifle though.

The only purpose of an atm is to save money on security for the bank.
If you are robbed at an atm, it is not bank robbery but street crime.

And don't get mugged with an atm card on you or you are likely to ride around in a trunk until the account is empty.

The United States where we still have a fairly strong social contract that doesn't allow for arbitrary violence.

ATMs have more advantages than that for the bank, and for the customers. With an ATM I can get money 24 hours a day when I need it or just want it. The bank saves money by not having to employ a person.

While the social contract that prevents most street crime and violence might be deteriorating in some parts of the United States it is still present in most of the United States.

Check teller salaries.
The employee isn't an issue.
Providing the minimum mandated security for that person, oh, and you the customer, is not a trifle.
But there are no federal rules about atms and street robbery, last I checked.

Unfortunately most atms don't even meet the common sense approach to security in basic design.

Even canadia has organized crime and gang wars.
What part of the us is safe for the police to go without weapons?
My first guess would be north dakota.

Tongue in cheek statement, surely?

May be the same social contract that made my neighbors think they could break into my house, but leaves them astonished that they might get shot doing it.

Ah, the sweet, sweet innocence of someone who hasn't been subjected to the underbelly of the beast which we call society.
