Curious about how to begin regional burn precursors

Post by Talynt » Sun Feb 08, 2009 10:08 am

Hey, I've been to BM once, seen the man burn twice. Now I find myself, due to the economy, temporarily located in west Texas for work. We have plenty of open land here, and I'm very interested (eg bored) in getting some people together once or twice a month to just do something, well, playa-esque. There's 5 or 10 of us who could help start this, but I'm curious if anyone has any ideas to really catalyze something fun.

Should I get the local university art department involved? We're going to probably just start going out to try different things, but I'd appreciate any advice from people who've been in this position before. Thanks!

I think you would have to be a master of logistics and marketing to get people together twice a month. Once a month is pushing it IMO. Sounds like fun and have fun.

Tribe, Myspace, Eplaya are the best places to advertise. Check with the regional peeps and see if you can tie in with what they have done already.

haha, I'm not talking about a full on regional burn, but just a gathering of some sort :)

just curious if there were any neat ideas to get fun people to come out and party. I've heard people talk about full moon parties, etc, but I don't know what really happens.

Then its the same way - make a flyer with your venue time and date and the details.

drop it as a .pdf to the locals. If you have 5-10 people already interested, put the onus on them to bring one new person each.

Just do it. I've found if you build it, they will come. Just do it right. If any event is done right, people will return. With friends.

Cheers

Until your group reaches a size which attracts the attention of law enforcement, then you have to deal with permits and insurance. There's a reason our Utah events are often 21+ age events, Official Utah has noticed us and the family aspect has been lost for now.

Free-form ad-hoc conflagrations plus the notable lack of upper-body attire upon the fairer sex generally tends to accumulate the desired agglomeration of participants and spectators.
For those of you with mental handicaps: get naked and burn things.
