Do what you have to do, DVD.
An eplayan by the name of Soy Boy accused me of being behind this. I hereby and catagorically deny all knowledge and involvement in Hamptons Man. They were in stuck-up Southampton; we burned in let-it-all-hang-out Amagansett, which means <b>"show us your ball sacks"</b> in Algonkian.
My project is www.burningsquid.com, where I can be seen, for example, http://www.burningsquid.com/m09.jpg messing around with a support cable in the right foreground. While the pictures on the site do not show how many people attended, estimates ranged from 75-100.
The Burning Squid team is currently considering how to respond (or not) to the existence of Hamptons Man. Personaly, I think this group of oh-so-ironic sharehouse fuckwits should be left to stew in their own martinis. But then, maybe I'm just jealous.

Heh sorry for thinking it was the same burn. I saw a burn in eastern LI and figured that was you. Just a really weird coincidence.
I'm pretty sure -going by the language on the website- that they were trying to be ironic and facetious. Kind of like "the Anti-Man".
I think what they did was kind of noble in a way, try to attract the WRONG kind of people and turn them over to our ways (like frat-boy yahoos on the playa becoming more conscious and open by the end of the week).
It's the carnal attraction of the flame and community that really attracted people to BM in the beginning anyway; remember that in 1986 they didn't have a unifying ethos either. They had to start from scratch.
I think it's easy to keep drawing the same type of crowd and be radically exclusive, but doesn't that make us as bad as the chi-chi Hamptonites then? Should we not try to rise above that level? Isn't BM about radical INclusion, thinking outside the box, opening up peoples' minds and hearts to ideas that they don't normally think about?

Isn't there trademark infringement going on here. Anyone want to inform the LLC? Selling products with the man likeness.

http://www.cafepress.com/hamptonsman
Not so much to protect BM, LLC's right to the logo but more to not get associated with the hamptons yahoos.
I'm all for regional burns and the like, but cellebratng consumerism?
"Hamptons Man Philosophy
Our sister festival, Burning Man, has a resolutely anti-corporate philopsophy. Pure inspiration! But hailing from Madison Avenue, Wall Street and Barneys we sought even greater enlightenment.
The air we breathe. Sponsored. The earth we stand on. Sponsored. The vodka we drink. Sponsored. Our aspirations, hopes and eternal spirit. Sponsored. Sponsored. Sponsored.
Hamptons Man celebrates the frontiers of mankind’s evolution: the transcendent dance between brand and humanity. Between product and essence. The emergence of a commercial being greater than us all.
At Hamptons Man nothing can be bought or sold because everything is given away. Here everyone is someone and the utopian economy of the goody bag has replaced notions of scarcity. Love, nurtured by eternally pining brands, abounds"
I get that it's a parody, but again...it will be guilt by association. Just wait. E channel will do a story on it and then when you mention BurningMan to someone they will be like..."oh yeah.....I've heard of the BurningMan....isn't that the networking party in the Hamptons?"

BTW J U D G E , how's Hacket ?
Hackett is alive and well. Pretty much fully mended. he had a gallery opening last weekend. featuring a propane pulse jet engine he built. was fantastic.
Also, some super cool metal sculptures with little view windows which had tiny peices of jawbone on velvet. beautiful.
Here are some pix from the KeyholeGallery Hackett art opening:

Cheers,
