Knife Laws
I was thinking I was going to bring a knife with a six inch blade for camping purposes.
Nevada doesn't seem to care. But I'll be touching down in California first and they will be scanning my checked baggage.
Would California take my knife if I was bringing it for camping purposes?

Peace, love, intellectual stimulation, and good times!

Some friends of mine in the SCA were traveling to a medieval reenactment. One of them brought his shield, which although it was painted, received plenty of punishment in simulated battle.
But, since it was painted with a design, the airline decided that it was "art" and put a big "Fragile" sticker on it. The lads at the tournament must had a laugh over that.

He's really SkyGnome 'The Playa Killer". He wonders around at night with a ball gag and leather zipper face mask on, kidnapping the good citizens of Black Rock City. Taking them back to his secret lair and doing quite nasty things to them with his '6 inch knife'.Playa Tom wrote:Why do you need a 6 inch knife? Are you bringing half a beef with you?
Be afraid. be very afraid.

With a 6-inch knife, you still can't get a cupholder on it, though:

Regarding the OP, I myself have hauled vicious cutting weapons of steel full three feet long and hungry for blood, through airport check-in. I once had a sword in a gun case, and the security gal wanted to have a look at it. As soon as she saw that it was "only a sword" she relaxed. Ha! She did not know who she was dealing with! Actually golf cases are the smart thing for transporting swords and the like.
Ah, but not carry-on. We're still too civilized for that.
