shade over tent?

Is it effective to have some kind of shade structure over your tent? I was thinking of a carport that went over the tent with room for a chill space during the day, any ideas?

Not only a good idea but a must out on the playa. Vets say it gets barn burnin' hot in a tent past 10am.

Absolutely! When the sun comes up at around 6:30 a.m. and your tent begins to fry around 8ish, if you don't have shade to cover your tents you will fry. Now if you hit the sack around 9:30 in the evening, then no worries. But otherwise, you have to have some kind of shade cover or else you'll die. Now the Darwin Awards would love you if you just didn't give a damn and died. But the rest of us...Well, not so much. But do it anyway.

Cover your tent from the side in the morning. A soon as sun hits, you will heat up.

Your shade needs to be set back to allow airflow.

A carport with sides is a good idea.

Covering it twice actually is a good idea also, in this instance.

Leave some airfolw however you do it.

And if your tent has any mesh in it, doors, windows, top etc, make sure you can close them off or you will end up with mucho dusto inside. If the top has mesh vents, you can cover them with something like a comforter clipped with office binders to the tent, or if it will only be a burning man tent, u can glue/sew velcro around the windows, and make a similar sized cover to attach to you tent.

It also helps to put your beer in a glass of beer.
And get an extra pair of sunglasses to put over your shades.
Do have a sleeping pad to put under your bed as well?
