I am one of those infrequent posters that likes the humor of socks. I haven't learned how to set up additional personalities yet, and I admire the skills of some sock owners. Some of the pleasure is in finding out whose sock is whose, and I will not " out " any sock. 8)

At times, I have attempted a more gentle form of snarkiness. Mostly passive/aggressive shit, but that's just me. Some people just don't get me, and that's OK. I have unknowingly pushed some peoples buttons at times. Some people are just super sensitive over certain issues and that's OK too. A least, here, noone gets really hurt. And as a common statement goes...If they can't take a joke, fuck 'em...

Yeah, I like socks, but too many people get sock accounts just so they can be assholes and get away with it.

^^^ They can do that anyways. No need for a second personality.

Everyone needs to friggin relax. Honestly if it weren't for the sarcasm around here a lot of these topics would be fuckin dead.

Behind a lot of the snark are the answers the newbies seek. Just gotta look.

Sorry about that. I keep my feet warm at this fire too. I just don't say a lot (although since I'm coming to the playa again this year for my fourth non-consecutive, I've been speaking up more). I'm that quiet old guy way over in the back who pipes up once in awhile just when you thought he'd gone away completely.

most times officially making a point of it, diminishes, yet always returns. its incredibly time and effort intensive, and no volunteer would ever want to make it a 24x7 job. but its also been one of the top 3 complaints of people not using this board.

lol that's not what I meant. I'm just not going to take time to go through old posts to pick out ones that would be dead without the snark, just to make a point. And plus I was on the phone so I just didn't take time to think and type and whatnot. lol

And I don't really pick on noob's either. In fact I respond to a lot of posts with what I believe is helpful to the topic. There are examples of this in Q&A. Sure I have fun fuckin around sometimes, but no more than anyone else. First its
"lay off the regulars", and now apparently its the newbies? lol

I heard it was the lack of handicapped bathroom stalls at the opera and loud tv commercials.

that its lame, and spam. the spam thing came from the period where this board was getting hit with spambots before dork implemented corrections.

for some there isnt much of a difference between snark and being an asshole, but theres also quite a few who simply lack social skills. i could rarely tell the difference.

You talking back then, or now ?

Bagder is rarely here anymore, ya' know ?

We do have Simon, though..... but he is nothing like the previous assholes, he has much more pucker and kinda smells like pickles when he farts.

Good pickles mind you, not those nasty sweet bread and butter things.

once anyone becomes a regular, it becomes much easier to tell.

It's kinda like an irish bar in here, ya' know.

Ya can't just show up and tell everyone that they suck at darts unless you are at least as good as they are in the first place without getting your ass kicked by the end of the night.

Sometimes you will still get your ass kicked if you get lucky too many times in a row, and show up throwing nothing but hat-tricks.

Simon has ADD so forgive him.

Badger tends to the sour side of things. It may be his job. His sock Iso has notthing nice to say to Newbies or most people and scares most of them off eplaya. Once in a blue moon, they add some insightful posts and add to the fruits of eplaya.

Snark is not always insult.

I my opinion Tribe is only a shadow of Eplaya. Difficult to find topics and I can't put up with the advertising. People have a tought time trying to Kiss the Mods ass so they could join. It's a selective club of Kiss Asses!

hmmmm...

i've never thought of snark as a competitive sort of thing...

i mean, no one is going to beat simon, he's the champ, and, IMO, quite untouchable ... but does that mean he should be left alone when he posts something incredibly snarkable, just because the war will ultimately be lost?

i don't think so.

I have always viewed it as performance art, and with all art , "rules" should be discarded, and lines should definately be crossed.

It was better back in 2003-5, IMHO.

i was just about to post something similar.

i enjoy all the snark, even when i end up on the butt-end of it.

it may not be comfortable for a lot of people, but this is a free site...

Me too, but I think certain forums should be um, less snarky, and the newbs given the chance to get used to the water before heating it to boiling.

second suggestion:

there was once a discussion way-back-when of placing a sticky at the top of certain topic areas. the contents would be a simple locked comment, or even a one-page info (separate from phpbb posting) titled "read this before posting." this was also thought up to address the problem of having topics strewn about and such, and the feedback area getting info requests not related to the board.

but no one wanted to do it, fill it out and such... not even me. guess that might be applied for both sides, declaring it a snark free topic area for the veterans, and an intro pointer for newbs.

The snark and high level of amusement I absorb is pretty much the main reason I keep checking back...otherwise I can just post questions on yahoo lists, tribe, etc.

Y'all some funny-ass futhermuckers.

I don't really have much patience for those lacking in acerbic wit, so kudos to y'all who answer the stupid "n00b" questions without jest.

Spec, there is a locked sticky at the top of Q&A on etiquette. I haven't read it.

ja... technopatra's post, not sure if anyone reads it at the bottom of other multiple stickies in one small topic area. definately not much to indicate a snark free zone.

that's all his does. People that only snark and do not add to the conversation limits the quality of the forum. Those that stalk others should be banned after the first warning! He was warn several times. yes he has mental problems and is on drugs for his problem, but that doesn't give him a pass.

Were someone to write about me what you wrote in your last statement above I'd ask that person to present positive proof for saying what was said or ask the moderator to either lock the thread or delete the statement as a severe violation of the TOA.

That is, before I considered following through with other, more...formal actions.

I do recall that you were a victim of forum stalking. Was that a resolution you proposed and was that followed through with.

It does sound effective as a first step.
