I came across Bike Glow and LOVE it.
I can't stand all the waste with all that dead (once glowing) plastic that gets generated at the playa afterwards.

Bike Glow is AWESOME, people can really see you, you can get creative on how you wrap them around (and with different colors), they are water/dust resistant and they are pretty reasonable.

Last year, I brought a light I thought was bright (but no match for this newer one). The playa dust killed it and I thought I was annoying other people on the playa with its beam. But it was easy to see where I was going; the playa surface was irregular and it was nice to be able to see what I was about to hit.

Your thoughts?

Take this advice only - get the smallest cheapest RED LED light (NOT WHITE) that they sell in the bike shop or a store like REI. They cost about $10 or less. Batteries last forever, they are indestructable on the playa, highly visible from like a mile away, and importantly, won't blind you or anyone else.

You can also get EL wire, but that's mostly visible from the side, and takes more work. Get a RED LED for front and one for back and you're done.

I wouldn't recommend the hokey spokes either. They only lasted me one trip out to the playa. They didn't like the dust.

A new blinky creature has evolved! Behold!

Volver: The Missing Blink is a collaboration between Image Node and
Disorient and is a 36 LED sequencer with 1600 pattern combinations by
the Image Node and Disorient crews. It has a hole for a lanyard or
necklace, runs off a 9V battery, and will get 15-20 hours runtime off 1
battery on the second brightest setting. It will also run off a
rechargable 9V battery for 5-7 hours at the same setting. It has 4
brightness modes and 4 running modes, which includes Flashlight For The
Portapotty Mode.

We are selling Volver as a kit, or assembled. If you would like to
build one, but do not know how to solder, do not fear! We will be
holding a Blinky Tupperware Party at the Nodelab in East Williamsburg on
July 26th, and a Mega Soldering Weekend on August 15th and 16th. We
will teach you how to solder, and we will make sure your blinky works
perfectly.
