Spontaneous Planning Camp

Post by Mr.? » Mon May 25, 2009 5:31 pm

New this year is "Spontaneous Planning Camp". Our goal is to provide an open forum for veterans and newbies alike to learn and share playa tested resources. Our camp will have scheduled workshops each day from noon to 3pm; in the workshops our entire camp will be open for burners to get ideas and share ideas on how to make a better camp. During the work shop we will have a small 2V dome to put together and learn the step by step process for making each strut. We will have print outs of various web sites and resources for participants to take with them. Through these work shops I hope to teach people what took me five years and tens of thousands of dollars to learn.

At our camp we are incorporating several structures; 3V geodesic dome, PVC Quansa Hut, Scaffolding Tower and A Tensegrity Structure. We will share other camp designs like working with solar panels, deep cycle batteries, inverters, water misting systems, water pumps for evaporation ponds, dry ice, el-wire and what ever else I've got experience in I'll be happy to share. The interactivity comes through other people sharing their knowledge and designs as well... Any one interested in our camp?

I've completed all the forms to register the camp, but since this is our first year I'm looking to get people involved or at least get a feel for the level of interest from the community.

What do you guys and girls think?

I think this is a fine fine idea for a camp.
Wish you had been there 4 yrs ago....but alas, sometimes learning things the hard way is the best way.
Sounds like a very gifting camp idea! The gift of what's next on the List!

Maybe them's peeps from ? "How do we do a camp from oversea's" could join your camp and be the help you need, plus it gives them the chance to do a theme camp without having the hassles of gathering stuff when they arrive on American shores!

Sounds like a WIN WIN!

Break a leg...sounds great!

I would love to go to a camp like this, being able to spend a day collecting information, and learning more would be valuable.

this will be my first year, and I plan on having repeats (know a lot of burners, am a renoite) so, it would definitely be a boon.

Will there be a spontaneous combustion camp?

I'm boycotting this camp...they make no mention of Wal Mart tents or hexayurts.
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

I'm boycotting because they don't know how to spell Quonset. Think of all the brave boys who fought in double-u double-u two for our right to erect temporary steel roofed structures where ever we please.

Or maybe they can't spell Kwanzaa. Think of all the brave boys in Detroit, and Watts, and Philidelphia (the city of brotherly love!) for our right not to be laden with the double burden of a commercialized religious holiday in December.

At any rate, I'm boycotting this camp becaue the are gving me competition in the pab spelling corner I've steaked out.

I don't have one, but it might be interesting on the playa.

Interview:
Mattis: Tell me about your dance instrument, the Terpsitone.

Theremin: This is a platform that a person dances on. When the dancer's body is low, you hear the lowest pitch. When the dancer raiser her body, the pitch also goes up. It's also possible to dance without changing the sound. For instance, if the dancer raises one arm and lowers the other, there will be no change in pitch. But if the dancer raises both arms, then the pitch will go up.

Mattis: How about the loudness, the volume?

Theremin: If the dancer goes more forward, it gets louder. When she steps back, the sound gets quieter. I had a Terpsitone dance studio in New York. I had many pupils dancing there.

I ran across a proposal for a dance club integrating terpsitones into the building structure, so the entire club becomes interactive.

Theremin dancers use devices such as the Terpsitone to create music in direct relation to their bodily movements. This type of presentation differs from typical dancing in that the music is created by the performance, rather than the dance being formed around the music. This is what is incorporated in the structure of the dance theater as the participatory space of action and events, albeit directly engaged as it is with the social realm. The forms of the music and various bodies in space are immanently coupled in kine-aesthetic symbiosis. An intrinsic relational space, often overlooked, is formed through this dynamic social interplay and raised to a new, celebratory level.

Multiples of Theremin’s Terpsitone were placed in the columns of the entrance conduit. By doing this, users arriving to see the performances can experience and interact with the technology in the performance before they see the professionals and, after the show, attempt to mimic what they have viewed on stage. This provides an empathetic view of the Theremin dancers, allowing the users to feel what the professionals experience when performing the ethereal acts. Theremin dancing, or Thereminics, 9 produces sounds and tones from the magnetic field created by the performer. In this, moving a finger or lowering a shoulder could produce a diminished tone, and an arm motion could change an octave.10 Possibilities and combinations of motions are limitless. Patrons/performers cooperating with one another can produce more interesting tones, depending on their combined positions and proximity to the devices, providing for a greater range of movement in dance. The presentation becomes a field of pure artistry. 11

Additionally, the tones produced by the participants will correspond with lighted panels solidifying the mesh of the form, creating a soft glow for glissandos, sharp flashes for staccato notes, and changing colors to signify dissimilar notes. When necessary, the panels can be used to display notices and graphics of the next performance or correspond to the dance occurring inside, thus creating a continuously updated façade.

yep, I never heard of a terpistone. <--- filed in "someday projects"

With the Terpsitone you didn't just wave your hands at a pair of antennae to make music, you danced about on a metal plate and the Terpsitone changed your gyrations into song, though some tunes were trickier than others.

It's said that an unsuccessful rendition of "The 1812 Overture" on the Terpsitone kept a team of chiropractors busy for a week.
