Just want to say Hey before begging for a departure ride

Post by reyla » Sat Jul 25, 2009 5:25 pm

Hey there... First time going to burning man this year, my older sister has gone with people from the Bay area a few times. I'm in ny, actually met a bunch of burners out here already (they sure like happy hours!)

My next post will be me asking for a ride out of Burningman - see I gotta work on Tuesday the 8th back here in NYC so I need to get to Reno airport (or some airport) some time Monday. The process of me getting to burningman is all set - (I'm actually first flying to seattle then driving down from there - I'm going with engineers and they built a dome and shower and all that. Hurray for nerds!)

Anyway I am really excited to go, especially for all the art projects. if you can point me in the right direction for procuring a ride outta there early, thanks in advance!

Look for a ride out Sunday. Monday Exodus will be long sitting in traffic; unnerving if you're trying to keep a schedule. Book a room in Reno at a casino/hotel and have a shower and a ridiculous meal and then take the shuttle on Monday.

A ride back toward Reno should be easy to find. You will be meeting people who are camping near you and everyone will be heading in that direction.

I always get a flight out on Sunday and arrive home either late Sunday night or early Monday morning. This year United Airlines changed my flight on me and I found that my choices at this point were very limited.

I am heading to the east coast as well, and I would really recommend trying to get a flight late afternoon on Sunday to giv you enough time to get things together. Getting the ride to Reno should be the least of your concerns.

Thanks so much for your advice. The hotel + shower is a GREAT idea.

I was worried about getting airline tix before securing a ride out of Burningman, but I'll put my trust in the burner community. In my head, everyone stays til the last day, but maybe a bunch of people will leave Sunday. I can't be the only one trying to get to work on Tuesday :)
