Dealing With Pre-Burning Man Depression
Do any of you guys get Pre-Burning Man Depression? If so how do you deal with it?
Right now I am busy getting ready for the burn…..making necklaces, making the list and checking it twice…..but I have fallen into the Pre-Burn blues…….I want to sleep…..I don’t want to be at work for a single second……I can’t stand to be around most people……any ideas?

Is it sort of a - why can't I be there now?! - feeling?
Nobody can wait to get out there, especially once you've got everything you need together and little else to distract you from the fact that only 30-some days are between you and that crazy desert.
But I wouldn't place it as a depressed feeling for myself. I'm excited. I put a countdown on my computer and look at it all the time. I double-check my packing list to be sure I have what I need. Then I talk to other people and make sure they have what they need.
Ooh! Do you have any burner friends around you? Maybe you would benefit from having a pre-burn party. Bring some of your gifts and costumes to show them off and inspire each other. Then at the end you can burn something, preferably made of wood.

I sort of want the getting ready time to last a little bit longer. Now the project parts have come in the mail, and I still have design issues. I bought a board for a t-amp from China and it needs all the connecting jacks, a battery and charger, for the ultimate playa boombox. something like parts express' podzuma

but I want to use an ammo can. I should have started making things earlier. But my default is that I have everything I brought last year that worked FINE! I am experiencing and fighting Burning Man accumulation.

I haven’t been to the burn since 2006……was going last year, but changed jobs and didn’t go……….
This year I:
Got laid off from my job at the end of April
Had my job extended to the end of May
End of May they extended my job to the end of June
End of June they extended my job to the end of July
End of July (NOW) they extended my job to 15th of August
Now they say they might make me a real employee again
Only the 2 Directors who want me to stay…..hate each other
They can’t seem to figure out what to do……..WTF
At least all involved at my job know that I’m leaving on vacation on August 25 and won’t be back until September 13….job or no.
It was 93° in Seattle yesterday…….everyone is complaining………me, I’m just thinking of the burn and how fun the heat is……….

A lot of people get the last week of school ants in their pants. But unless you live in the middle of nowhere, theres regional stuff all the time. Here in utah its every few weeks. Otherwise maybe get checked out for bi-polar disorder, you may just be cycling manic/depressive phases.

Homie, Major RED FLAG.. Major issues your going to have..Time to sit down with all in your camp and have the "TALK".. Best to talk now about the work load expected on the Playa now before it falls apart the 2nd day out....manOman it happens all the time..Homiesinheaven wrote:flatlander13, i hear what you're saying. i get down mostly because people in my camp are so slow to help out and it takes so much preparation that doing it alone gets frustrating.
but dont worry we're almost there!

We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.

You've got BMitis. It's like Senioritis (if you remember back to High School). Inability to focus. Desire to get away. You can almost taste it.
Fear not, only 36,594 minutes...
