Read an article today that Oakland Police nabbed a guy in the Fruitvale district pretending to be a police officer, pulling people over and apparently robbing them. He tried to pull over a cop. Career ending move.

There's some rough parts of Oakland. If you don't know the area, I wouldn't go wandering around at night much.

I do not know this person but as said above, hearing this makes me feel really sick. I believe in our collective conscious and that the power of our collective will is amazing.

this is a reprint from tribe
Story from the San Jose Mercury News:

www.mercurynews.com/breaking..._12925772

Note, from Elias's mother, Anna: Please do *NOT* contact police (Oakland, Watsonville, Santa Cruz, or LA) UNLESS YOU HAVE CURRENT AND RELEVANT INFORMATION ABOUT ELIAS'S DISAPPEARANCE. They are being inundated with calls and it is slowing down the communication that is essential to them finding him alive and well.

Please keep Elias in your prayers and intentions.
From what I have read the police are working the case and have very good leads. There is a reward, $20,000 being offered for information that leads to his recovery.
Lastly, Anna is asking for all those who believe in prayer/intention/hope to “breatheâ€

BONNY DOON - A pickup belonging to a Los Angeles man missing for more than a week was found burning just off Empire Grade Road late Tuesday, but authorities have not located Elias Sorokin.

Friends last heard from Sorokin, 29, on July 20, when they think he was driving from Oakland to Santa Cruz to meet an acquaintance. His plans were to return to L.A. the following morning, friends have said.

Two days later, a couple tried to use his credit card at the Target store in Watsonville and, on Friday, a woman tried to cash a $4,500 check from Sorokin's business at a Santa Cruz bank.

That was the same day his father, Nick Sorokin of L.A., filed a missing person report with Oakland police. The case was transferred to the Los Angeles Police Department. Santa Cruz and Watsonville police, along with the Sheriff's Office, are now involved in the investigation.

"At this point, we still have a missing person and we don't know what Mr. Sorokin's status is right now and we're all working together to figure out how we can be the best resource possible for Los Angles, which is still the agency with jurisdiction," Santa Cruz police Capt. Steve Clark said. "We've kind of formed a mini-task force here around this to pool our resources and our information."

Police said they are also looking into several possibilities including the angle Sorokin may have been involved in the marijuana trade and that may have contributed to his disappearance.

But, so far, the clues are sparse.

Someone called 911 to report a fire on a dirt road about a mile from Smith Grade on State Parks property at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Sorokin's truck was fully involved when firefighters arrived and the flames were slowly spreading into the brush, according to Cal Fire.

Initially, Cal Fire sent a full wildland response - including bulldozers and fire crews from Felton, Bonny Doon, Soquel and Big Creek - to the fire because of the pickup's location, but the response was reduced to three fire trucks when firefighters realized it was a vehicle fire.

Sheriff's deputies were also sent to the scene because "cars just don't usually start on fire," Sheriff's Office Sgt. Greg Lansdowne. "It's strange that somebody's truck gets burned."

No one was around and deputies found no sign of Sorokin.

The pickup was identified as Sorokin's through the vehicle ID number and the Sheriff's Office hauled it away on a flatbed. Crime scene investigators are searching the vehicle for evidence, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement say it's unclear how the truck caught fire or how long the truck had been parked in that location before it burned.

Investigators are calling the fire suspicious, but have not gone so far to say they believe foul play is involved in Sorokin's disappearance.

"We're trying to figure out where do all these pieces fit together, what do we have?" Clark said.

Sorokin's relatives and friends have said it's out of character for him to stop contacting them and miss events, such as business meetings for his clothing company, Kucoon. They fear he was carjacked, kidnapped or fell into some other dangerous situation.

This week, friends announced a $20,000 no-questions-asked reward for information leading to Sorokin's safe return. They also are searching areas around Santa Cruz County with tracking dogs and posted fliers with information about Sorokin, whom they describe as a loving and respectful person.

"I'm still hopeful," his mother, Anna Oleynik, of North Carolina said.

Online communities have sprouted up on Facebook and blogs, where people share information and take part in the search for Sorokin. There are prayer circles for Sorokin and, on Monday, a vigil was held in L.A.

Sorokin is 5 feet 9 inches tall, 150 pounds with brown hair. His friends asked that anyone with information about Sorokin's disappearance e-mail them at [email protected]. Investigators ask people contact the Sheriff's Office at 471-1121.

The greater Santa Cruz County area is better known for its meth labs than its pot farms but they have both. And there have been some incidents of "foreign nationals" tending groves in the area over the past couple of years. But when I think "Santa Cruz" I think "meth" not "pot". The gangs from El Salvador have been taking over the meth trade in the area and those groups can be extremely violent.

For example

I sure hope he is ok.

When was the last time you spent any time in Las Lomas or Watsonville? Or up in the Santa Cruz hills? The area between Loma Prieta and Mount Madonna is crawling with meth labs.

A company couldn't pay me enough money to move my family to Santa Cruz County.

Well, I take that back, there are some nice areas between say Corralitos and Aptos, but that's about it. Schools suck, though.

meth labs in watsonville? and those hills? is that a surprise? i suspect there are a few meth labs in various parts of the rest of the bay area, as well.

santa cruz county has always had pot farms, well, since the 60's, i guess.

those hills have been treacherous for 50 years. when i was little charles manson was running around them. i lived in one of those nicer areas between corralitos and aptos ... one day 20+ years ago mom and i took a little hike in the area ... and found a campsite. with some weapons. fortunately the guy wasn't around, but we weren't far from our home - a home that is worth plenty these days ...

my brother lives in ben lomond. he has kids. the kids ride their bikes all over the place and they haven't had any problems. but they don't go looking for any, either. it was well known that you did not want to stumble onto a pot farm, and i'm sure it still is... people disappeared a little too often ...

no, not as safe as some places, but it never has been, and there are certainly places that are worse.

i sure hope they find elias ... this is so sad ...

The press loves to paint any problem that happens to people who use drugs as "possibly drug related".

It is possible that his tragedy had nothing to do with his drug connections.

But it was in Bonnie Doon, not Santa Cruz that they found the truck burning. And someone apparently tried to use his stuff in Watsonville which is WAY South of there several days before the truck was set on fire. So, it would appear that someone took the truck up there in the isolated area and burned it to get rid of it or went back to it to burn it. But that is REALLY stupid because A: that area is watched carefully this time of year for fires, such a fire would not go unnoticed and B: it guarantees the truck would be found, which is sort of the opposite of "getting rid" if it. But it would tend to get rid of any evidence such as blood or fingerprints or dna.

That part of Empire Grade would be pretty isolated. I wouldn't go traipsing around up there after dark unless I had a really good reason.

And yeah, they are quick to jump to drug connections which is really unfair because most criminal activity in that area is generally related to trade of organic instant mashed potatoes. (yeah, I went there)

BREAKING NEWS

Adam Hunt as pictured below is wanted in connection with the disappearance and possible death of Elias Sorokin.

Image

http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/ci_12966835
SANTA CRUZ - Two Santa Cruz men have been arrested and a third is wanted in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a Los Angeles man last heard from on July 20.

Friends last heard from Elias Sorokin, 29, as he drove from Oakland to Santa Cruz. Two days later, a couple tried to use his credit cards and checks at businesses in Santa Cruz and Watsonville, which prompted local authorities to become involved in his disappearance. His burned-out truck was discovered Tuesday night on Empire Grade Road in Bonny Doon on State Parks property.

Sorokin's body has not been located though police believe he was killed before his truck was dumped.

Santa Cruz police Capt. Steve Clark said Kenneth Clamp, 29, and Stewart Skuba, 31, are being held in County Jail. Skuba, who identified himself as a hair stylist, is being held on $1 million bail. Clamp, who identifies himself as a construction worker, was arrested early today at or near his residence at 407 Liberty St. in Santa Cruz and is being held without bail, according to jail reports.

Skuba was picked up Thursday night in South County, then taken to the Santa Cruz police station and questioned. He was arrested on charges of kidnapping with intent to hold for ransom or extortion, robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime with another person. Clamp is being held on a drug-related parole violation and thought to be "peripherally involved," Clark said.

A $1 million arrest warrant has been issued for

29-year-old Adam Hunt of Watsonville, Clark said. He is considered to be dangerous, but it is unknown if he is armed.

Police said the three men are acquaintances and all have criminal records.

Police believe that the men had a prearranged meeting to sell a large amount of marijuana and that the deal went sideways at a condominium at 244 Felix St. in Santa Cruz. Thursday, the FBI and Department of Justice were at the Felix Street location collecting and cataloging evidence.

"We have evidence that pretty strongly leads us to believe it's a homicide," Clark said.

Clark declined to say whether they had located a weapon, how they believe Sorokin was killed or if they found marijuana.

Sorokin, who is a co-owner of a clothing business called Kucoon in Los Angeles, was on a trip to Northern California when he disappeared. His credit cards were used at Target in Watsonville by a man and woman on July 22. On July 24, a woman tried to cash a $4,500 check from Kucoon at Bank of America on River Street in Santa Cruz. Police have identified the woman who tried to cash the check, but she has not been arrested.

Neither Clamp nor Skuba have been charged with murder.

"We'll wait to apply that charge when we find a body," Clark said.

Clark said police found evidence while serving a search warrant on the condominium on Felix that led them to believe Sorokin is dead and that he was killed there. He said they believe his 2007 Toyota Tacoma was torched to destroy evidence, but that the effort wasn't successful.

"We were able to pull evidence from the truck," Clark said.

On Felix Street on Friday afternoon, FBI agents wearing white jumpsuits removed items through the back door of the condo, the last in a line of tan-colored homes along a driveway. They sorted evidence on folding tables set up in the parking lot of an adjacent apartment complex and loaded items into a waiting evidence van.

The scene - roped off with yellow crime scene tape - was hardly visible from the street and attracted little attention from others in the neighborhood, which largely composed of apartment complexes and college-age residents.

Santa Cruz police asked the FBI to join the investigation because of their advanced means to collect and process evidence. Kidnapping is also a federal crime, which means the men could be prosecuted federally, though Clark said that is unlikely. FBI agents handling the search declined to comment on the investigation.

Clark said he believes Sorokin was killed before law enforcement or the media were alerted to the situation and that the motive revolves around the drug deal.

"I think at this point we have a pretty good picture of how the events transpired," Clark said.

He declined to talk specifically about the marijuana transaction and didn't know how long Sorokin had been involved in drug trafficking.

"Clearly he was involved in the business to some degree," Clark said. "You would have to have established some history and some credibility in the business to deal with these quantities."

When information surfaced earlier in the week that his disappearance may have been related to pot sales, Sorokin's family and friends expressed shock. They have described Sorokin as a warming, caring person who was beloved by many. His mother said he was the light in their lives.

Santa Cruz police have informed Sorokin's family and met with his father Friday afternoon.

The search for Sorokin's body continued late Friday.

"We have been looking," Clark said. "We have sort of set some concentric patterns that we're looking at right now to try to narrow down possible locations as to where the body might be."

Police are using a cadaver dogs and also employed the U.S. Coast Guard to search off the coast, though Clark said investigators had no specific information that Sorokin's body was dumped in the ocean. Officers also searched in the forested area where Sorokin's pickup was found afire, but didn't find any sign of him, Clark said.

Los Angeles police also were investigating the missing person case, and Sorokin's relatives and friends launched their own search in the area this week. They offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to his safe return, no questions asked. Information about Sorokin's disappearance was posted on Burning Man Festival blogs and Facebook pages. Monday night friends held a vigil in Los Angeles for him and have put up fliers in the Santa Cruz area asking for tips.

A contingent of friends came to Santa Cruz this week with search dogs to look for Sorokin after psychics and astrologers told them it's possible Sorokin was being held against his will by unstable people. At the time, friends said they were worried about his safety and that a psychic told them Sorokin may be in bad health.
