reno airport by 2pm for flight, monday 9/8, when to leave

Post by Porschebug » Sat Aug 01, 2009 1:31 pm

Any good feel for time out there among you well seasoned burners as to when i should leave the playa to get to my flight monday in reno after the burning of the man?

Any car jam timing advice is much appreciated, but i also would like to get SOME sleep before taking off...

Six to eight hours for Exodus will get you to the pavement and you will still have a hundred miles to go. Allowing for traffic on 447 you may want to leave around 3 am. Last year after the Temple burn Exodus was around two hours. You may want to leave then and catch a nap someplace along the way.

Pack up and do your moop pickup Sunday afternoon. Be ready to just hop in and go.

Hang out with your new friends and neighbors and listen to BMIR radio for exodus updates.

Check things out and see what kind of line they have. Decide.

If it were me, I'd plan on leaving Tuesday. It would make me too nervous to try to plan on catching a plane after going through Exodus.

I'd either drive out of BRC on Tuesday and plan the flight accordingly or leave Sunday or Monday and still plan on a night in a motel just to be safe.

That's just me, I'm paranoid. :D I've had some killer long Exodus experiences, hehe.

I pack up most of my stuff the night before and load as much as possible in the car. I take up the tent stakes and set my alarm for really really early. Once you get to civilization you can shake out some dust and pack your bags for the flight. If you plan on starting to drive out of BRC at 6:00 am, you should be ok.

IT IS SETTLED!

thanks again to all you learned elder statesman of the burning man experience, full of rich wisdom; for in your grand visionary collective experiential light of knowledge i believe i have a balanced view as a first timer enough to leave very early sunday morning, maybe around 6am or earlier, no later than 7am, to get to the hotel to stay the night monday and fly out tuesday, that will not only give me more than enough time but also avoid some wicked crunch of time being caught in the desert WITH NO AIR CONDITIONING for my 1970 VW bug art car! ouch! can't let that happen, and this one doesn't have a sun roof or vented windows for the back seat windows... at least i'll have a roof rack with aluminum radiant barrier and stuff on top to ward off the cooked head effect, which is what i've gotten before being so 6 foot 4 ish...

i shall now bother my roomate, who wanted to see the burn, and tell him of this truncated burning man experience, which we will have to avenge in 2010 or later i suppose... thanks for the help burners

and by all means, give me more votes/opinions ideas for catching a flight at 2pm tuesday the 8th in reno... how would you do it?

Yeah don't miss the temple burn.

FWIW, two years ago I had a flight in Reno on Tuesday at 12:55 PM. I got up at dawn, walked to the exit, took me maybe 30 minutes to find a ride, and I caught my flight right on time.
