Theme camp areas and reserved space

Post by wedeliver » Sun Aug 02, 2009 4:24 pm

In the survival guide it says on page 10, "After Dark Arrivals, If you arrive in our city at night..........you are likely to inadvertently camp in a reserved space...."

Here at Burningman.com on the map page it says, "Shaded areas reserved until 11:59 pm, Sunday August 30th for registered, placed theme camps, and also includes some space held back for the general public. After that, all unoccupied camping areas of BRC become available to all."

So, my question to the eplaya group, does this sound like there will be areas reserved after the gates open or will everything be "up for grabs"??

If this be the case, I wonder what this portends for opening night, will the line be all the way through Gerlach maybe stretching all the way to Empire?

Yes, it will be up for grabs at 12:01. This was discussed in another thread.

Sounds like theme camps better get there before they don't have a reserved spot!

Then its a free for all!

My guess is the "you may inadvertently end up camping in a reserved space" line is a holdover from years past when theme camp land was sacred until Wednesday.
A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

I think that someone didn't think it through all the way before they posted it with that wording.

All of your responses are not how it is.

Not all theme camps have early entry, but they do expect them to be up and running by Wednesday, and if thier spot is still vacant then, HISTORICALLY, that spot THEN becomes avalable for whoever.

This is not going to be an easy year for the placers as they run around and tell peole that they can't camp there, regardless of what they think.
Especially on Monday Morning, after some of the landgrabbers already set thier shit up all night long on land they can'y actually use.

If I am wrong about what I just said, then I really, really feel sorry for the placers, because there will be huge hell to pay on a daily basis for them.

Wrong.

DIRECT from placement peoples.

"A very important reminder: if you are placed this year, a member of
your camp must claim your space before our gates open to the public
midnight between Sunday August 30th and Monday August 31st. Watch out!
We think this whole Mayan Calendar 2012 thing is wreaking havoc early,
cause some of you are thinking Burning Man starts August 24th. NOPE.

ARRIVE BEFORE AUG 31ST, OR LOOSE YOUR SPACE"

Well, that is odd, I wonder how that will work with those people with themecamps that don't have an early entry pass ?
Or,per se, only a few do and they show up a day late ?

That is a new one, and as I said when I finished my last post, I feel really sorry for the placers this year.

they gonna be real busy and pissed off........

My understanding from the placement list that at least ONE person will be granted early access to claim their privilege for each theme camp and village.

As for villages....

"EARLY ARRIVALS FOR CAMPS IN VILLAGES

All early arrivals for villages are requested by, and will be supplied
to the village main contact, in most cases the person who filed the
village Placement questionnaire. We will not be honoring early arrival
requests from camps in villages. Villages must sort this out internally."

I always though that if a supposed theme camp is not there by wednesday they are not coming.

Although - I have seen camps still building their art projects up to Saturday of the burn!!.

Nope - its completely at the wizards whim - you think places liek the deep end, or T-Dome get put up by one person? Think dozens and dozens for some camps. The longer youve been around, the more contact you make, and the better plan you have on paper - the more you get to play.

Okay. Odd thought

Do you think it's remotely possible that this years projected lower attendance is being seized upon as an excuse to shake things up a bit, perhaps let in a bit more of the chaos that was a hallmark of the earlier, smaller event?

I imagine early entry camp markers will anchor their corners with marking tape from the blue flags. At the very least, vehicles can mark the corners. Midnight madness may require theme camps to post border guards. Razor wire may be a bit much, however. Happy hunting for Midnight Madness...
