Welcome to the fray! At this late time, joining a theme camp may be a bit difficult. You can check in the local regionals and see if there are others going from your area and maybe join up and travel with them. http://regionals.burningman.com/na_index.html
Read the First Timer's Guide over and over and make sure that you're prepared for everything. Food, shelter, shade, camera etc.
Many people attend this event solo the first time. Most people in my camp sleep late and I tend to explore the playa on my own nearly every day.
I know heading into something like this solo can be intimidating, but once you get there, you will find everyone friendly and welcoming.
See you on the playa!

I could be wrong here, but I think that BRC is the gay-friendliest city in the country. It shows its San Francisco roots when it comes to that.

Although I'm sure even there, homophobia shows its ugly head.

With a username like "manofsize," and a blatant introduction title unlike anything else common in the introduction thread I am going to have to relegate this to a troll thread.

PS not gay unfriendly.

Welcome manofsize; Sincere good luck with finding a camp. I agree with Crypto that its probably the most gay-friendly place going. Any camp is likely to be welcoming - if they have room at this late date.

This year will be the first BM Gay Pride parade - I've forgotten the date and time, for sure. But when I initially read about it, I was moved to remember the idea for a potential news item. The gay pride parade is happening this year because of some nasty business that happened last year with some rednecks taunting a nearby gay camp that was minding its own business.

Let's all stand by to watch and cheer, even march in the Pride Parade as it passes and recognize the long way we still have to go to stamp out prejudice, even in BRC.

And if this is a troll - we're in for a bit of fun now, aren't we?

Interesting Deb, I didn't hear about that. And fortunately I have never experienced it there either. Hope I never do.

Here's the listing from the Playa WWW listing. And it appears that I read an old item on this because this is the second year for the event. I guess the nasty stuff must have happened in 2007 creating the parade in 2008 and this year will be a second edition. Nonetheless still worth supporting.

I still think drag racing off the Esplanade would be more fun...
