Bike Racks?

Post by veleda » Mon Aug 03, 2009 8:39 am

hey;

This is probably a stupid question.. but hey..humor me..

every year a mysterious single bike rike shows up at my camp.. I think this is delivered by the org.. One is never enough and Im wondering if it is considered really rude to ask for more or whether this is standard?

also.. has anyone built their own? Any good designs out there?

We need to figure out a better solution than last year.

A bike rack, you are talking about something that doesn't go on a car?

I hope I have room to bring a bunch of pallets and make a corral for bikes, so they aren't sprawled out all over camp.

if it's for parking bikes, you could always get naked voluteers to get on all fours and line up........

You've always been good at that.

If it's security, string 20 feet of heavy security chain and lock to that.
If you can't find it, I can help.

Masterlock has good chain but no custom pieces.
Abus will custom cut.
Don't wait if you want some.

We tested this stuff and hard even in 6mm (-.25 inch).

Get half inch or larger.

We cobbled one together from old futon couch frames and a discarded "valet parking" sign and a couple pieces of rebar.

You can sort of see it to the left of Bucky and What's Left of Riley:\\Image

I think the OP was talking about parking space needed out side public places

standing bikes all next to each other takes up less room than bikes laying on there side all over the place.
If you have a popular theme camp or bar it tends to become a tangled mess out front.
So parking becomes essential. Temporary short term parking for the occasional MV is also a good Idea. Kinda like a bus stop if you will.
I have seen the re-bar racks used before. I liked them is all.
You could use the basic pattern with most metals I guess.

In retrospect, probably a corral of pallets would not work as well as a real bike rack.

The corral could be used to segregate bikes that belong to the theme camp, but jamming a bunch of bikes into a single orifice would create a hopeless jumble.

Here's what you're spoze to do:

On that topic, is there a bike rack fairy who will drop one off at my camp in exchange for a cold beer and a grateful handshake? ;)
