Hello all!

After years of waiting, I am finally on my way to BM.

I am a medical doctor, travelling all the way from Georgia alone. I am looking for suggestions to get the most out of the experience. I really want to be a part something there, and have volunteeered for the EMS staff. But barring that, how would you suggest getting involved and maximizing the joy?

Check out the Regional list on the burningman.com website to connect with some locals. If you're driving you may be able to hook up with a convoy or offer a ride to someone else. The journey to Burning Man is part of the experience, in my opinion.

Wow, it's wonderful that you're volunteering with the EMS! The city loves volunteers. You'll make friends with the ones you work with and they may suggest other entertainments in your off hours.

And if you haven't yet, please read the Survival Guide on the main website too. That offers good advice for survival. Self-reliance is important. Once you arrive, be sure to meet your neighbours right away. They can help with little set up needs or you can help them. It's easier with others right there.

I make a plate of cheese, crackers and fruit as soon as I arrive to offer to neighbours or camp folk so that we can spend a few minutes getting to know each other and relaxing from the drive. Then get camp set up and start exploring.

Don't forget to pick up your daily newspaper, the Black Rock Beacon. It goes really well with morning coffee.

An Artery tour of the big pieces of art is a good idea too. Visit the Artery in Centre Camp to find out the dates and times.

Um, what are you interested in, besides providing medical at the United States Third Worldiest clinics (barring the Pacific Islands and Tribal Lands)?

Yoga? Drum Circles? Tango Dancing? Sno Cones?

Pee Funnels?

Poke around here and see what tickles your fancy. Before you get to BRC get tattooed with the two or three events that most appeal to you. Forget to go. Sit around with the firefighters and hear then tell wild stories. See something cool while on a call. Spend two hours trying to find it again. Be utterly frustrated in all endevors. Get home and complain for two weeks solid. Start planning next year.

Or somnethng like that.

Truthfully,

I am most interested in getting outside of myself, hopelully in the company of others that are doing the same. It would be nice for me to have a real catharsis. Trust me, I am overdue....

Tango dancing and sno cones appeal.

Catharsis is what it's all about! You'll find it if'n you're open to it.

The best sno cone experience that I had:

On Sunday last year, there was a camp on the Esplanade that was making pirate sno cones. In order to get one though you had to perform a jig. Since there was music, this was quite simple. The better your jig, then the more variety and better quality of ingredients in your sno cone. I channelled my Scot heritage and those highland dance lessons and came away with the most delicious sno cone I've ever had. Very nice rum with fresh squeezed lime, put through the hand cranked blender with crushed ice! And a playa hug from the bartender.

You can't beat that for catharsis! But you need to be open to doing a jig!

Hi, I'm in the southeast too.
Just get out and meet people.
See everything.
You'll figure out what interests you.
I like to do a variety of things out there.
And then there is big fire too.
