CALL FOR DECOR MATERIALS FOR MYSTIKAL MISFITS CAMP!!!!

Post by madmatt » Tue May 26, 2009 12:39 pm

Greeting!!!! Mystikal Misfits camp returns to the playa in 2009 with another stupendously fantastic camp.

We need donated, trashed, scavenged and otherwise free materials that we can use in the decor of our fantabulous theme camp. (see photo below of our camp in 2008).

Oooops, he, forgot to mention...

We're based in Los Angeles.

If you have any junk lying around that could look like it could be jerry-rigged into a museum display, or anything that might look at home in a 100-year old laboratory, and would like to donate, please private message me.

If you know of any good resources to find such stuff in LA, please post. Thanks!!!!!

I love those college kids. Leases were up at the end of the month yesterday. Moving out tenants leave electronics, clothing, housewares, furniture at the curbside. Check your college neighborhoods, most stuff not listed on Craigslist or Freecycle. Stuff is left for the garbage man. Just get there first.

I got pillows, fabric, furniture, carpet, buckets, patio recliner, poker chips, electric fan, a sony turntable, nalgeen bottles, baskets, plastic stacking drawers, several gallons of paint, a gallon of vinegar, and a book about tapeworms just this week. I never buy new stuff.

Oh, and landlords are taking deposits on fall apartments, TODAY!

You might if you'd read a book about bed bugs.

Good information is available from the University of California. Yes, I took entomology classes at Davis. I don't use second hand mattresses, and I do sun out pillows. I inspect and wash household items.

Fabric theatre seats, public transports, and hotels are your main worry areas for bugs. International travel spreads lifeforms easily now too. Urban settings consentrate the spread also.

IMHO, mankind is the head parasite feeding on the world.

From a University of California site:

You can remove bed bugs and eggs with the suction wand of a strong vacuum; however, you must target the vacuum on the seams of mattresses and box springs, along perimeters of carpets, under baseboards, and in other areas where bed bugs live. A single vacuuming rarely gets all bugs and eggs and, therefore, should be repeated. Portable steam cleaners can also be used to clean mattresses and furniture.

Commercial heating services are available to treat entire rooms in homes for bed bug infestations. The current label use for commercial heating services is 140°F for two hours or 130°F for three hours, which will kill most bed bugs and eggs. In California, providers of heat services must be licensed and bonded by the Structural Pest Control Board when treating for wood destroying pests. Chilling to a temperature of 32°F or lower and maintaining this temperature for several days also will kill bed bugs.

For suspected infestations in clothing or bedding, a home laundry drier is very good at killing bed bugs; only 10 to 15 minutes exposure is needed.

This thread is about donated items for a themecamp. I'm just saying that college students just give away cool stuff when they move rather than ship it home.

I respect your concern for others.

Gift horses should be looked in the mouth. I deplore the disposable economy we now have, when even autos are considered obsolete so quickly. I'm old enough to remember standard size parts, and easy repairs. Now every plastic car has its own unigue parts and assembly. Things are way to complicated and they don't need to be that way. I know that waste hurts everyone.
