Well said, Igneouss. I tend to agree that the BMORG is looking for something unique. They particularly like themed camps. There's a huge difference between a dance floor, and a dance floor in a jungle.
I'd like to add that it's probably safe to assume city creation goes something like this:
1. Create map of city
2. Collect theme camp applications
3. Separate out, and first place best, biggest camps
4. Place rest of camps.
5. Announce placement.
If we assume the above, then we can see that the map is completed before the tally of theme camps is done. (in fact, I'm pretty sure that the layout was released to the public before the due date, verifying this) This means that the team of people creating the city don't really have any clue how many theme camps there will be or how much space they will request requiring much guessing on their part. So, maybe there was a large surge in theme camps this year, or the same number of theme camps but requesting more space. Maybe the city creation team decided that BM has a better vibe when it's kept intimate, and thus decided to not grow the space this year.

Argh.
If you've been following this thread, you know that my camp didn't get placed this year. Of course, we assumed we would - we offer something very unique to the playa and have been placed the past two years in the same spot.
So, of course, we assumed we would get placed again this year and made plans based on that assumption. Our bad.
One of those plans was to take delivery of our dance floor, shade structure, and sound system on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, the flatbed doing the delivering has to be in and out that same day - and is scheduled for regular work back in Truckee on Monday. If the truck doesn't unload on Sunday, it won't be free for another run to BRC until Tuesday, perhaps even Wednesday. You see our problem.
We've made some great connections with camps that may be able to host us this year, but have not locked in any early entry passes. And it would be way above and beyond to expect a camp that has been kind enough to let us squat on their real estate to also unload our truck when it shows up on Sunday. But if the truck doesn't show up on Sunday, then we don't have the floor/shade/sound until perhaps Wednesday, then a day to build, then half the week is gone and what's the point? Not much of a theme camp if you can't follow through with your theme.
Sooooo... help me think through this....
Any suggestions are appreciated, keeping in mind that money has already been spent and commitments made.
And if anyone feels like they can spare an early entry pass or two, I will happily put in many hours of time at YOUR camp in exchange.
