Playa Monkey Camp

Post by The DubJunglist » Mon Jan 12, 2004 8:19 pm

I love monkeys, so do you. we could make the camp look like a giant tree with rope swings and platforms...lots of monkey suits and bananna accessories. any more ideas?

It sounds like the subtheme of the camp could be 'camp rope burn.' Be sure to keep plenty of bandaids on hand, haha.

Wasn't there a space monkey camp in 2003? I have a plastic tumbler at home with their name and logo that crept into my gear box.

Check out the Ass Monkeys.

They've been around on the playa for ears.

...and it's the Chinese Year of the Monkey, too- Bgirl helpfully informed me that, in fact, it's the Male Green Wooden Monkey Year! BurningGreenMonkeyMan Festival, anyone?

just keep in mind that I (in my previous identity BlueBirdPoof) already claimed the "Playa Monkey" name for the small crustations that estivate in the dust and come alive again in the wet winter. (Anolagous to Sea Monkey)

At Safari Social Club a few years ago we decorated our jungle room with all kinds of fake (and some real) flowers, leaves, trees, etc. picked up from a crafts store. Making/painting them would be easy too...

I like this idea. Although I'm in LA, if you are going to be pulling something together and looking for volunteers, I'm looking for a new camp....

foliage

Post by smacky » Mon May 03, 2004 7:42 am

I work in a theater -- a combination of sort of abstract painted foliage with fake foliage on top of it can give a nice sense of depth and save money on fake leaves (which can be kind of expensive.) I've done things like that before that were pretty successful.
the only other thing I can think of that monkey's like to do is pick fleas out of each other...

You can probably get used military camo netting pretty cheap at your local army surplus store or online. Might help put the "jungle" into the "jungle gym."
...but it seemed like such a good idea at the time...

You could then take the camo netting and cut it into strips that you can hang from the dome as well, like willow branches...sort of...
